How do I deal with SALT?

What I want from SALT:
1 - formal assessment of ds' expressive & receptive language skills.
2 - formal assessment of ds' speech production

what she says:
1- no point, it will underestimate his skills
2 - no need his speech production is age appropriate

how does she know?
1 - she visit every 6 weeks for 30 minutes, never interacts with ds, never sets goals, says that is the job of the ABA programme.
2 - she hasn't heard more than a couple of words from him - ds has MASSIVE speech production issues.

what she wants us/nursery do to:
1 - follow her Hanen pre-verabl child suggestions - put toys out of reach, spin wheels, hold up a paintbrush when we're going to do painting.
2 - communicate at 2-3 word level.
3 - use pictures to explain turn taking.

DS speaks at 5+ plus word utterances in spontaneous speech for all functions, understands what/where and is getting why, we're starting to get conversations - he his very delayed but the child she imagines is not the one I have in front of me - her suggestions are flabbergastingly inappropriate.

She's obstructive, vague and I am so angry; with this & the CAF I'm seriously considering taking ds out of nursery & refusing further contact with the lot of them. Is there any point in continuing to bang my head against the wall?

How are you obtaining SALT help? Via the NHS or via surestart? - or somewhere else? Can you get a different SALT instead? I wish I had known before DD#1 was five that the local surestart childrens centre had access to therapists as our NHS service was (still is!) mostly useless. I took DD privately which may be an option too you? I found a local therapist via this website

Other than that can you find out who their supervisor is and tell them that you are going to make a formal complaint unless they start to take your concerns seriously?

Hi Beautifulgirls, thanks! Bit of a long story (this is the duplicate silly thread) - ds has an ASD & lang delay diagnosis. His SALT is the most senior clinician at CAMHS & specialises in complex communication disorders. We do have a private SALT but I'm getting v. cross that NHS won't even do the most basic of tasks & we're required to pay for it (we're already funding an ABA programme which costs thousands).
