constant chattering of nonsense

DD has a massive speech delay and few words, at 3.7.

In last week she has started chattering away and babbling CONSTANTLY. It's rather irritating but I am really hopeful it's a good sign, I know it is in NT younger children.

Has anyone's child done this and then spoken quite soon afterwards?

TIA.

The ASD specialist did ask me if she chatters away to herself so I am also wondering if it is just vocal stimming too.

eek , said ASD specialist's secretary just called and said she is going to observe DD in nursery on Monday, so I think we will prob get her diagnosis.

Ah yes was ds3's apttern; he now has communicable language but still does talk absolute nonsense much of the time (you think if your kid doesn't speak then if they ever do you won't complain whatever- not so for me, ds3 can make your ears bleed telling you exactly the same thing he told you every day since he started talking and often quite deluded- for example in detail about teh fact that he built every house)

Now, as for vocal stimming and labgugae- with ds3 I coudln't work out teh cut off in all truth.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/06/2010 17:16

Yes, I can see how it would be irritating, am only on day 3 and it's already a bit wearing..but sort of exciting.

Ds2 didn't do this... But talks 24/7 e en in his sleep!
There is no let up.. Ime you actually learn not to hear all of it all of the time ifswim and just pick up on key points!
But well done your dd

TheArsenicCupCake · 09/06/2010 17:27

Oh just an add ds2 vocal Stims .. His are bah bah bah bah bah noises or if he is angry he growls.

He's 11

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/06/2010 17:46

Thanks she has also got much more interactive recently so it's all promising really. She went up to a woman in street and shouted "hiya" at her today.

very cool..

The thought of your dd yelling " hiya" at strangers has bought a welcome smile to me today

SanctiMoanyArse · 09/06/2010 17:57

DS£ will talk to anyone, I have to be generoud with my mercy and free poor shopkeepers from him LOL

Arsenic ds1 (10.5) growls. Oh OK sod it- I growl when I am really angry, it's involunatry (you hate me now don't you? )

BTW if you are deffo thinking about that Sn thing you mentioned let me know if you want any help writing Sn stuff, plenty of time on my hands ATM

DS1 has loads of vocal stims of teh usual kind- growls, high picthed noises, squeaks..... ds3 ahs weirder ones that you have to sift through to work out what is and what isn't. he also screeches and sings a lot. by singing I mean, very very loudly (esp. opn campsites!) singing the words la la laaaaaaa repeatedly in a high pitched flat voice: you'd swear he'd been on teh vodka were he not 6,

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/06/2010 17:59

My DD reminds me of Father Jack from Father Ted sometimes...

It's good she is shouting "hiya" to people...I am very shy though

hey fanjo thats great!
Good re nursery observation too

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/06/2010 18:03

Good I suppose, and it is the head professor herself doing it...I just don't want the diagnosis really, she already gets support and DLA so I am quite happy keeping head in sand...suppose it would be good to know what is going on though!!

It is strange though, it's like she has just discovered that people are nice and interesting, including me, which is good.

Sancti ... Don't think I could hate you.. Even if you growl.. ( long as you don't bite )

very serious about the sn thing.. We are trying to sqeeze money out of rich folk as I type!

@ freeing shop keepers.. Ds2 has no social /communication inhibitions whatsoever they get the full force ds2 experience!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/06/2010 18:19

I think I have that to come, since DD can't speak much yet she just embarrasses me by grabbing people's bottoms and legs to steady herself!

Ah sounds like ds3 LOL, quite- tiring!

Do ask then if you want any stuff doing, have a whole Uni database of up to date research on Sn /provision (we share with SSD dept) and time.

TheArsenicCupCake · 09/06/2010 18:28

Sounds great sancti.. Will shout as soon as I have wrung the rich . ha haaaa. Actually have had a decent amount of interest.. It the giving away most of the profit they are find hard to swallow.. But the will swallow it.. Because sn families need a bloody break!

DS2(4) has started to babble and chatter loads, this year. I've noticed that, as the months have passed, his range of sounds has become so much wider and that he is able to articulate sounds like "L" that DS1 had loads of difficulty with. Every now and again, a recognisable word or phrase pops out and he sometimes tries really hard to echo phrases off the TV like "ee oo ah ah-di-da!" for "we'll cook for everyone!"

I see it as something very positive.

I have also seen him waving at crowds of people or the telly saying "heya!" or "hi"

The sweetest thing is that he runs up to the kids at nursery and chats with them and they've gone from being a bit baffled to either imitating him back or just plain talking to him.

Now what I can live without is his squealing. He usually does it when he's having his "evil thoughts" (like hahaha, it would be so utterly hilarious if I pushed that book off the table!!!) and it makes my ears want to explode with pain.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/06/2010 20:33

ouryve - he sounds very similar to my DD, it is lovely to hear her saying hi to people, must be great to see the kids at nursery chatting with your DS!

Hi Fanjo

This sounds like progress. well done your dd.

Ds talks and talks - normally about diggers and cars. Everyday he says his set phrases several times like "This is a new new new bathroom (we had it done 12 months ago) or "the cement mixer mixes cement" drives me potty.

I've started to think that it's actually my fault as because I've been so keen to encourage his delayed speech I greet every mundane utterance with delight and enthusiasm. I fear that I'm creating a conservational bore!
