No, but we are going to dreamnight at Marwell zoo on the 18th

lourobert · 06/06/2010 19:56

Dreamnight is in the evening isnt it Lou! My ds would be fast asleep by 7! Hope you have a good time!!

Davros · 06/06/2010 20:36

You don't need to pay with a blue badge. We live nearby but we are not going. Apart from the fact that DS won't be here, for kids with ASD/LDs it can be a bit overwhelming as its very busy and you do have to wait to get in etc.

Davros · 06/06/2010 20:37

Having said that, be careful where you go. Within the Royal Park you can park and on the Camden side BUT beware if you stray into Westminster, they don't like outsider disableds!

lou031205 · 06/06/2010 21:22

lourobert, yes, it is - I normally give DD1 her melatonin at around 6.45, in bed asleep by 7. I am hoping that without the melatonin she will still be wide awake, as she normally is How are you?

meltedmarsbars · 06/06/2010 22:36

I didn't know about this! Have a good time, those of you who are going.

London is a bit far for us but apparently Twycross Zoo does a reduced rate for disabled visitors and a carer goes free?

roundthebend4 · 06/06/2010 23:06

Think most zoos do always worth asking worse can say is no

lourobert · 07/06/2010 08:48

Good thanks Lou, I wanted to go to dreamnight with Marwell being only down the road but just a bit late for us really!

sugarcandymountain · 12/06/2010 18:55

Brilliant day out today . It made such a difference with just SN children and siblings there, I felt so much more relaxed about DS' behaviour.

We live a bus ride away so we've got home in time for Dr Who too.

silverfrog · 12/06/2010 19:12

We had a great day too. Really was great not to have to worry about dd1's peculiarities

Wish we only lived a bus ride away

roundthebend4 · 12/06/2010 19:23

We went to London zoo today met some great people first time I ever had problems looking for other people with dc in wheelchairs ,
but dont think I would go next year , way way to busy was approx 5000 sn dc invited plus they said was expecting 6000 nt through gates to.
Think next year I`ll aim go one of the dream nights and just camp near by

meerkatsandkookaburras · 12/06/2010 19:31

yes they do melted marsbars i cant remember price but it works out well with free carer as we go a lot its only about an hour from us i think!!

Davros · 13/06/2010 11:25

Maybe they should do a disabled only day?

roundthebend4 · 13/06/2010 11:39

Yes I did email them that suggesting they look at dre nights also that it was not on charging a parent to stand provide support on a ride especially on Sn day

and since they knew going be a large amount of wheelchairs/buggied attending that maybe moving one bench from displays make access easier ,personally from pov of ds in a wheelchair other than being flat I did not find that to wheelchair friendly , hedges in way of views ,viewing glass to high from adult on wheelchair they could probably see from a child no

And no acessisblr play area either

Davros · 13/06/2010 13:50

It would be great if all "attractions" had a disabled only day every year and everyone knew about it, i.e. X is special day at London Zoo, British Museum, Aquarium etc. People just checked which day it would be and avoid it, but totally accept that there will be one at each place sometime during the year. ho hum. Interesting roundthebend, lots of really good ideas. I find London Zoo variable when it comes to SNs, DS has a membership and a carer goes with him but we have to PAY, I think it should be free! We only live up the road but use it as an option if we have no other ideas of need to be fairly near to home for some reason.

roundthebend4 · 13/06/2010 15:00

Yes we have membership for our local zoo lot smaller but they have a small sn playpark that you can ask to be unlocked has accesiable swing and roundabout then has sn swing and rocker ,were now involved when then do something new given them viewpoint fro
a disabled childs view which is lot differnt to disabled adult
