www.autismhelpforyou.com I just found this site a few days back and cant believe my luck. This woman had delved into every possibility regarding biomedical and therapeutic intervention and has her own ideas on the links of autism and heavy metals, etc. She even opines on the possibility that autism may be early onset schizophrenia as the symptoms are so similar.

You would have to look at her site to really get a feel for all the fab work she has done and its all for free. She also has a number of free "teaching manuals" which she has developed herself. The site is a bit "all over the place" but if you take the time to look through it, you will undoubtedly find something of interest and definitely something which applies to your asd child.

Let me know what you think of this site. I have learned so much from her and can't thank her enough.

I wish she's referenced her work actually, some of the things she is saying sound interesting but I have no idea how she got there and she isn't saying. I'd like to see the studies she's based her idea on. For example she says that insulin resistance predates obesity in type 2 diabetes - which is interesting if true, but I can't see where she's got that from.

this is not my kind of website- only because it goes on and on about cures and causes.... My boys are autistic. Full Stop. Accept It. Work with it. Make life easier for them.

But cure it???

and find out what i could have done to prevent it...my fault.... if i'd not done this ...done that...gone here gone there...ate this ...ate that....

No...i don't get ANYTHING from such websites.

I prefer to spend my time researching the way forward- coping strategies etc...rather than investigating the past.

Let the scientists try and 'cure' "IT"...yes...i like the idea of maybe of by the year 3000 there being less cases...but then i imagine my boys 'cured' and i don't know what to think- bit like the case for testing during pregnancy for 'defects'...and then making THE CHOICE.

Don't want to stir this up.... just feel strongly that there are people on here who DO accept their kids for who THEY are.... AND I DO GET A BIT FED UP HEARING ABOUT WAYS TO 'PREVENT' OR 'CURE'.

I agree with you to a point MrsE, but I think it is different if you are dealing with autism where the child will never live independently. I don't really care about ds1 being autistic, but I do care that he won't ever be able to live his own life, and will probably have very, very few choices and options. I do want to prevent that happening to ds3. When I've said this week that I'm terrified of ds3 being autistic what I should have said is that I'm terrified that he'll never live independently as its that that scares me. In fact one of the "comforting" things I've been tellling myself is that even though he has ahigh risk of ebing autistic it doesn't mean that he would be severe.
