Would call social services at Moor Lane Centre in Chessington, ask to be referred to SS OT urgently and explain situation. You never know! Might be more help than the hassle caused. We got much more access to this one (though help was limited to equipment only). Reception number is 0208 547 6527.
'Real' OT has 18 month waiting list. Think we've seen her 3 or 4 times since ds was dxed in August 2008 and we were hot-footed to top of the list. So not any real use.

Not sure tbh. Am dozily thinking of my corner of surrey. Sure they'd be able to advise of somewhere closer if there is such a place.

Yo is right, SS OT are absolutely the right people. Tbh, I've found Surrey SS OT one of the best professionals I've come in touch with. Yes, I was astonished too. Have you actually seen them already for an assessment, or has your SW been too shite to refer you? I

You're Spelthorne borough I think, which counts as "north east surrey" or "east surrey" (even though it isn't east, it's bonkers) depending on how the teams are broken down. So the number Yo gave you might be the right one after all.

And this is the social services OT you have seen, not the NHS one?

Hum. Fwiw, I imagine the commode will arrive, eventually, the hoist there is probably another solution and OT needs to try harder to find it and the DFG refusal makes no sense. Spelthorne's criteria for granting DFG are here: www.spelthorne.gov.uk/business_and_advice/environmental_health/env_housing/housinggrants.htm. Did OT give you a written reason for refusing to put you forward for DFG? If not, definitely phone up and ask for one so you have something to beat them up with.

Then I think your best bet is to get some local help. Carers UK have a local branch; they should know who all the local people in SS and wheelchair services etc. are, and how to escalate this. You should be able to ask them to do some of the phoning round for you too.

OK, well that's thoroughly out of order and grounds for complaint in itself. The council will have an appeals process for if you think you are wrongly refused DFG, and you can't appeal if they won't tell you why you were refused.

I hope Spelthorne Carers can help you.
