why independent as a matter of interest ? Non state schools don't have the same statutory obligation to support thsoe with statements and you may have to fund any one to one support yourself. Have you had a look here

HELLO LIZS.

THANKYOU FOR YOUR REPLY.

IN ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION MY EXPERIENCE OF THE STATE SYSTEM IS ONE OF TRUST TO DISTRUST. tHE TRUST STARTED AT THE ICAN NURSERY WHERE THINGS WERE GOING VERY WELL AND FELL APART WHEN MY DAUGHTER STARTED AT PRIMARY SCHOOL. I ASSUMED THAT THEY WOULD BE UP TO DATE IN THE AREA OF SPEECH AND LANGUAGE NEEDS AND TEACHING METHODS OR THAT THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO TRAIN STAFF UP. NETHER HAS BEEN THE CASE. IT HAS BEEN A DIFFICULT AND BUMPY ROAD SO FAR.

SO I HAVE A PRETTY GOOD IDEA OF WHAT IS AVAILABLE WITHIN THE STATE SECTOR BOTH THE GOOD AND BAD BUT AM TOTALLY IN THE DARK REGARDING THE INDEPENDENT SECTOR.

JAYJU

HOWEVER I AM TOTALLY IN THE DARK REGARDING THE INDEPENDENT SECTOR AND WAS CURIOUS TO FIND OUT WHAT PEOPLE'S EXPERIENCES HAVE BEEN.

Good luck finding a ms independent school with specialist SEN provision - they are few and far between. Not in B and H so don't know of any potnetial specifics.

btw using block capitals is considered shouting and may not attract repsosnes you hoep for.

JAYJU · 31/05/2010 11:01

Thank you for the tip! Have stopped shouting now.

Yes thought that this may be the case as intial internet searches have come up with nothing.

State schools vary enormously - as I'm sure independent schools do. All state schools will have to provide whatever is in your statement - so I hope that you have good stuff specified in it.

It is heartbreaking how much you have to push for SEN provision, but keep doing so. Definately change schools if you are unhappy with your current one, but don't assume all state schools are equally bad.

I'm no expert, but I suspect you'll have difficulty even finding an independent school that will take your child. I know when I asked my local private school if they would take my child with suspected dyslexia (obviously a far more mild problem than you are describing) they straight away said no.... Not sure if this is common or not.

There are specialist schools for pupils with speech and language difficulties. Some are private but you can apply for the LEA for funding if her needs are not being meet in mainstream. Look at Moor House as an example
www.moorhouse.surrey.sch.uk/
I know it is not near you but there may be something closer
Also our authority has speech and language units in mainstream schools where the pupils have specialised teaching and opportunities for inclusion with their mainstream peers
