You are absolutely doing the right thing. Don't feel sad - feel glad that your dd has a proactive parent who understands her needs and is seeking the support she requires. Whatever difficulties she has, that is what will make a difference to her.

The letter doesn't have to be too long - they will ask for more detailed information later. If you have reports, take quotes from those to back you up (and send the reports too). When you've had to speak to the school/professionals, what have they said about her difficulties?

Are you using the IPSEA template letter?

Template letters from IPSEA and ACE are useful. I felt horrible applying for the assessment because 1) it really comes home to you that your child has difficulties and 2) you are going to read endless reports that explain them in detail. But it has to be done. Treat yourself to something nice once it's all in the post

Thanks a lot for these - I am being a bit of a muppet but I can only find a two line template on the IPSEA site - so both sad and dumb!! I will add the quotes - thanks that's really useful to know. Having read other posts am also putting a list (long...) of people she's seen over the last six years.
Might treat myself to something nice right now, and wine springs to mind..

Have you found this letter? It's worth using it as it mentions the Education Act - I've heard of parents just asking for 'an assessment' and the LA not regarding that as an SA request as it doesn't have the specific wording!
