OT quantified in Part 3 - was it a nightmare fight to get it??

Following on from nappyaddict's thread....
For those of you who have it, I am just wondering how straightforward or difficult it was to get OT quantified in Part 3 of your child's statement.

We have dd2's statement review on Wed - statement to be amended for starting Reception in Sept.

We have made it clear in our parental contribution that we expect the OT provision to be specified and quantified in Part 3 (the OT's report is great and very specific) but gearing up for that to be a fight, so interested to hear any experiences.

As in the other thread, ours is very specific and it wasn't a problem. Both reports from physio and OT had the wording exactly as I quoted in the other thread and the statement writer just lifted it from their reports. I was a bit surprised it was so easy but v grateful!

I actually don't know.. We are still trying to get a statement.

However we did get an OT assesment.. Which enlightened us that ds2 was overly henry and clumsy with poor posture. ( this was pretty much the outline from quite a big report)
So that was worth it then! ( I think anyone one first glance at ds2 could tell you that). I can't see how that is ever going to help us tbh.

TheArsenicCupCake · 24/05/2010 22:32

Overly bendy .. Not henry! < giggles>

sphil · 24/05/2010 22:37

My DS2 is often overly henry

roundthebend4 · 24/05/2010 22:59

Intrested on this as I think Herts are going to give in and do it as unit they identfied as being right for ds and I agreed with it . He got a place at panel but school now saying won't take dd without regular of input and since Herts put in writing this school will be right one figure there going realise tribunal waiste there money

especially as Ot already said he will need chair toilet aids for gross and that her colleague will need sort out computers/fine motor

Thanks for all the replies!

Hairy: lucky you - just keep quiet in case anyone notices!

Starlight: we had to go private as our local OT dept do not see children with Downs syndrome. Was worth it though as have got an excellent report.

Arsenic: dd2 is excessively 'henry'

Roundthebend: that's interesting - we're in Herts too. Have made it clear that we expect the OT provision to be in Part 3, and the LEA know from last year when we initially got dd2's statement that we will take them to tribunal if they don't do what we ask!!

No it's not. But I am really pissed off with ours as it's the annual review tomorrow and we haven't had a copy of her report. She's coming to the meeting so I guess she's going to turn up with it there - grrrrrrrr!

Yes, have seen that - thanks. The private OT we saw would be perfect and has clearly specified the number of sessions and the nature of the intervention required.

I just want to say to the LEA - look, we've done your work for you, just put it in Part 3 and pay this therapist to do it - it'll be cheaper than having us take you to tribunal each year until dd2 is 19!! (providing the changes re right to appeal after each AR go through...)

Sorry for not getting back before. We saw Carolyn from Quality Independence - google and you'll find the details. We were very pleased, but obv dd2 has different issues to your ds. Not cheap though - aagh.....

Let me know if you can't find her.

We have OT in statement, but had been seeing forever. OT report for statement was spot-on, and even quantified equipment that was likely to be necessary in 2 years (laptop etc)
i heart our ot.

roundthebend4 · 30/05/2010 18:08

Roundthebend - she looked at pretty much everything - gross motor, fine motor, hand-eye co-ord, perception, proprioception, lots more stuff as well as sensory. Did a home visit and a school visit where she recommended specific equipment and modifications.
