Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

I think, maybe, I need to request a statement for DD - where do I start?

Should I bring it up at the CAF on Tuesday (the list for that gets longer)

Or is it a separate thing?

You can do it yourself, Katymac. Look at the IPSEA site, and you will find template letters.

You can mention it at the CAF, but don't necessarily be influenced by their feedback

It is really hard to fill in

Does DD need help at night - well generally no, but if she woke up she would

The PSA & the lady from Look have said they will help me fill it in with me

I am not used to asking/accepting help - I normally provide it

Contact a Family web site have a really good leaflet on how to claim DLA for a child. Also enclose any relevant letters/reports with the DLA forms. Photocopy everything you send.

The educational statement process can be very difficult. Seek some support and advice. IPSEA website and telephone advice line were brilliant.

Katymac · 22/05/2010 22:48

I'm doing it on-line (I think)

OP posts:
Katymac · 22/05/2010 22:49

Now I have been in touch with Contact a Family - they are getting back to me as no-one has this

Katy, if you do it online, the claim starts from when they get your form. If you ask them for the paper form, the claim starts when you make the telephone call, and you get 6 weeks to fill in the form.

I write better on-line

I have 6 weeks (I think) to fill it in

I may get 2 paper one & do one each with the PSA & Look then amalgamate them into the on-line one

As I don't have a piece of paper with a diagnosis I am fairly stuffed I guess

Contact a family DLA factsheet available online.Goodle Contact a family DLA it should come up with this. www.cafamily.org.uk/pdfs/DLA_factsheet.pdf

I rang up for a DLA form and when the DLA was awarded it was back dated to the date that I had requested the form. You will need some time to think about the questions on the form. Keep a note book with you and keep putting in what you have to do - just so you dont miss anything out.

Good luck

Katymac · 22/05/2010 23:02

Oh - I do need to ring up, Oh damn, why do they not make his clear

So I have to write the bugger

Oh crap

Hi
I think you have the option to do the DLA form online or in a paper format. It doesnt make any difference. Do the one which you feel more comfortable with.

I am not sure about the DLA being back dated with the online system, but I am sure that the online system should not disadvantage anyone. I guess you could do it online and phone them up - cover both bases.

Take your time with the form, collect your information. Get help in filling out the form . You have about 6 weeks to return it. Make sure all aspects of your childs disability are covered adequately.

Sorry if I confused you earlier.

Katymac · 24/05/2010 22:31

I phoned up & got a form

Then I made a formal complaint about the disparity between applying on-line & by post

OP posts:
BigWeeHag · 24/05/2010 22:39

I did it online and it backdated to the day I started it on the site - took me a few weeks to complete it.

Katymac · 24/05/2010 22:41

Really? the man on the phone said it wouldn't

Dear god the help lines don't have a clue do they

Well when they respond to my complaint telling me I am talking crap they can retrain the helpline staff
