Grommet blocked?

Hi, had my ds first hearing test today after having grommets fitted in feb. The hearing test bit couldn't be done as they expected to be able to put headphones on him and him to indicate when he could hear a sound (yeah right!) However, they did the tympanometry thing and one ear was fine but the other grommet was blocked. The nurse doing the the hearing test said they would probably arrange for him to atttend the local childrens centre who have a better way of testing younger kids. However, the doctor we saw said it was unecessary as there was no fluid behind the ear and the eardrum seemed to be moving ok. I just wanted someone elses opinion. Should I just ring the childrens centre and self refer for a proper hearing test or should I just accept what they said?
Also can anything we done to unblock the grommet?
Thanks

No harm in getting another test done if you have any doubts. Have you spoken to the doctor who did the operation in the first place - probably worth a call about the blocked one to see if there is anything could be done to help.

di they hoover the ear. ds always had laods of wax in his and always ended up having it hoovered. also seem to remember that the skin can grow over it.
(ds had about 8 grommets)

Hi, they didn't do anything they just said it was blocked. They said with dried up glue but I can see the grommets in his ears and a week or so ago they both looked fine. When I've looked tonight the right once definatly has something blocking the hole but it wasn't there before so I'm sure its wax (he gets a lot) rather then dried glue from when they opperated. What do you mean by hoovering them?
I'll try and get hold of the doctor who operated and see what he say's but its very hard to get hold of him. I'm going to try and get another appointment for a hearing test as well, I'm just worried that the fluid will start to build again if the grommets blocked (he's still very mucousy due to his allergies I think).
Thanks

Having seen the size of one grommit that fell out of DD's ear when she had them done (after only a few mths grr) I doubt that they could 'unblock' it in situ, but yes I would self-refer for the hearing test if you can. You want to be sure.
