Hi, i've posted here a few times under different names, my problem is that although i could now fight for what my son needs in England it doesn't seem to be the same up here.

We are pursuing a diagnosis at present likely to be ASD, has been ongoing forever or so it seems. He seems to be just above the cut off point for most services by a whisker.

The school are pretty useless but making sympathetic noises now they know i'm not going anywhere etc etc.

Anyway, just wondered if anyone had any experience with the Scottish system as it seems to differ quite a lot, eg we don't have SENCOs.

I have a feeling i'm being fobbed off a lot of the time and would love to know what my rights are RE getting my son the support he deserves. Thanks.

Yup - It's rubbish up here (for autism anyway). If he is in mainstream, The Additional Support For Learning provisions are what you should be looking at to get support.

I'd start with this site www.enquire.org.uk/

Thanks, it makes for interesting reading.

It's amazing the difference you feel when instead of thinking you are being fobbed off you realise you are being fobbed off.

I'm hoping i can use what has happened, to help what is to come.

Even when i've thought i've been getting somewhere with the school in these last few months it seems it's all been lip service, none of what should have been done has, it makes me so sad.

Also pissed off.

Pissed off that

They've made me feel bad for asking for info that i should recieve as par for the course.

They've withheld info that would mean we are further on than we are.

Infact pissed off that they have ignored the whole framework for Additional support for learning, why would they do that?

Sorry i'm just ranting, need to say it here so i don't explode with fury at the school.

Thanks Star, I know all that really, i did the being angry at myself thing last time, when it all came out that despite saying otherwise things were not all rosey at school, i felt i should have pushed more in the first place.

I know i'm not to blame, and i know that no one person is, it's just such a kick in the teeth to know that what comes out someones mouth is pretty much crap.

I don't understand why they wouldn't follow guidelines?

Well actually i do, it's all about making sure they don't look bad, it's where all the defensiveness comes in.

I just thought they'd listened when i said it wasn't about before it's about dealing with it now.

They make me feel so crap for wanting assessments done because he isn't 'failing' despite the fact that he clearly isn't thriving. GAH!
