Buying extra private therapy - anyone got experience?

Just inspired by something badkitty wrote, I wondered whether anyone has experience of 'topping up' physio/SALT/OT provision?

Like everywhere else, the people we have been assigned are mostly lovely but the appointments are so random and sparse that it just seems a joke. Apparently OT here ration high-priority children like DS to a block of treatment of '10 weeks on, 15 off' which means 1 appt per week. He finished his last block in September and was due to start again in February but apart from being assessed by new OT, there's been nothing.

I don't know if this is even something we could afford, or if it's something we would have to keep quiet from NHS (probably), or even if there would be much provision in our area (central Scotland) but I'm interested in the experience of others.

Any thoughts?

I topped up SALT provision. IME you don't need to keep it quiet, it's best if information is shared as necessary. In terms of affordability - private provision will recognise resources are limited - so if what you can afford is say an appointment every 3 months, then that can be arranged - that's the big advantage of going private IME - you feel more in control.

Sorry, just replied on other thread- I have just got frustrated with what we get on NHS so am "topping up" with physio/SALT, but trying to prioritise what we need most at the moment and just have appointments as often we can afford. I hope you can find some people local as even when NHS people are very good, it can be helpful to get a fresh pair of eyes looking at things and suggesting something new. I think our NHS physio is v. defensive though about it to be honest.
