What items/toys do you take on holiday for your ASD child?

I have packed the car up for our holiday (we go in the morning), i have some space left in the boot so though i would take a few things to help dd2 settle in.

What should i take? I don't want to take her whole toy box but would like to take a few things to keep her busy and make her feel at home.

I have packed her DVD player so she can watch Peppa pig in the evenings, also her magnetic letters and some playdough.

It looks like the first couple of days might be wet so we will be indoors (in caravan), what will keep her busy?

What items do you take with you to make your dc feel comfortable/at home?

Maybe a peppa pig comic? Some books? What does she like doing?

DS always has to take something with him wherever he goes, like a transition object - I will be doing exactly the same in a couple of weeks when we go away.

A peppa pig DVD will be on our list too! And DS is also currently loving magnetic letters.

I try to take small things that he likes eg he likes WallE and Thomas so these are easy to take a couple of small toys of. Also his usual beaker. Pens/crayons and paper/colouring sheets, don't often get used but like to have them for like you say, rainy days.

Can you take the pillow from her bed? I do this if I have space in the car. I also take a fleece blanket usually from his bedroom for his maclaren major as a comfort thing.

can you take your major on the plane as hand luggage?

I have packed her magnetic Peppa pig boards (she loves these). Magazines are a great idea (will keep them both busy).

We take sticker books, and magnetic players eg we've got a hungry caterpillar one, night garden one etc.

Photo books are ever popular too.

We also take familiar objects - dd1's blanket and pillow for her bed, comfort teddy etc.

Picture Otto games also good entertainment, and don't take much room to pack. Both dds also just got into magnetic fishing games, and elc have a good fishing for letters game at the moment.

who said anything about a plane? I am living off carer's allowance and income support!

Our holidays are UK only. Sorry I can't answer your question about handluggage. Was you wanting to take a major as handluggage?? I'm sure someone on here will know if you can.

Waitingforgodot, we have managed to take our P&T on board before now. Not as actual hand luggage, but in Tue cabin, stowed by staff, so that we didn't have to wait for it at reclaim at the other end.

We made a big deal about how it was dd1's wheelchair, and how we needed it immediately at the other end. Hasn't always worked for us, mind, but a major is umbrella fold EP you.should have more success. Who are you flying with? You could try getting an assurance beforehand, as it sometimes helps to be able to say "but we were told we.could"

have a quinny zapp which folds away into nothing and we usually just take that on board as hand luggage. We do have a major but it looks very bulky so prob just squeeze him into the zapp.
aSilverLining-have a lovely holiday.
