ds has a dx of GDD would ABA help?

Keep seeing threads about ABA and have had a nose in them.

ds is 4 and will start M/S school in Sept. LA have just agreed to start a Statutory assessment. His dx is GDD though he is on list for social communication clinic and OT sees dyspraxia, sensory problem. He is v behind more like 2 than 4 and although very loving and eager to please and try new things he has v limited attention skills and poor social skills with peers.

Would ABA be appropriate without a dx of ASD? Is ds already too old? Would I be able to fit it round School from Sept?

Sorry I only know from my experience but I had to give the provider the ICD10 Dx of Autism....which I had to wait 7 weeks for the letter after dx before they would start.

Maybe a private type/non organisation ABA provider may be able to help?

I'd recommend contacting a few consultants and seeing if they think they could help. We use Sean Rhodes who doesn't work exclusively with children with ASD (we started with him before diagnosis & his willingness to work on language delay alone was a reason we went with him). Since we've started ABA it has become increasingly apparent that our ds' ASD diagnosis isn't correct, his issues seem to be delay rather than disorder, but even a (very) part-time programme has been hugely beneficial to him.

Thanks guys. Feel like I'm not getting anywhere. Not sure if it is ADs or not and 18 month waiting list for social communication clinic to find out. considering whether to get a private dx but it is an expensive way of ruling out conditions.

will do some more googling based on what you say. thanks

It's just very confusing because there is no agreement on whether it is ASD. His OT, SALT and paed don't think it is ASD but his SEN experienced class teacher does.

I'm worried that spending yet more time on getting a dx is another distraction from me spending time with my son trying to bring him on with activities we have been given by OT.

Actually having a real crisis of confidence about parenting my son. I feel I've let him down and he'll start school less prepared than he might have been if I'd put more time in and/or given up my part time job.
