Has anyone else seen this:

Can it really be so simple? And how does one get one?

More information in this article. It says you can get the full version for £1.79 from the Apple Store.

Of course it should be - I was actually amazed that the technology is in principle not that complicated.

Hmm not really so simple and this article is slightly misleading i think, it is making out its eye tracking technology when its not, the user looks at the device but it still needs the selection pressed to move onto the next level.

also the picture where shes telling her dad what she wants to do has him sitting behind her so theres no way he can see what she's looking at.

its really only akin to her looking at four objects or symbols but on an electronic device rather than printed material.
it is good in that, if you already have an iphone, its relatively cheap, its portable and can move through levels so one selection will prompt another four choices but it will only ever be true eye tracking technology when a company like Tobii or Eyetech or the like create an attachment for the ipod/ipad, now that i would buy!!

scaredoflove · 11/05/2010 11:34

It is a good idea - it is just using points of reference but in a contained way ie you don't need to hold the object and can have a large bank of objects on the iphone

There are a number of similar apps and considering how bulky most aac devices are - it's great that people can now have a pocket sized version

i also think it might be hard for the person holding the device infront of the child to see where they are looking on such a small screen, it would be easy if it were two choices then you could see if they were looking left or right relatively easily but im not convinced with some users if you would be able to see which option of the four was being looked at clearly so might only work if the child could communicate yes or no in some way to confirm the selection.
there is a yes no option on it but it needs to be pressed

this threads moving faster than i can type!
Exactly Riven! i looked into this when i heard about it as i thought it was too good to be true and i was disappointed that it was!
although im pretty convinced that at some point in the future one of the eyetracking companys will come up with some sort of device that plugs into the iphone/ipad but im also convinced it wont cost £1.79!!
