in so many ways over the last couple of weeks that when we took him to his introductory session at developmental playgroup the teachers were using terms like HFA and possibly AS!

He is almost three and has started pointing, asking for things, gathering the family together to share things with him, greeting animals, people and TV characters - I'm so pleased

He even knows what shapes are and could name a circle, square, triangle and star. I've mentioned them of course but didn't know he was taking anything in unless he's learnt them from Mr Maker which is more likely

I don't think AS but seems he is quickly picking things up, coping strategies maybe? and some of his more classic autistic behaviours are less pronounced.

Just had to share, and sorry I haven't been commenting much, the board is a bit heavy on school / statementing which obviously I'm learning a lot from and am very grateful for, but have nothing to add to.

That's lovely news, Milady. Well done DS and you too.

I love hearing about people's proud and happy moments, when you're caught up in the slog of it all, trying seemingly endlessly to work on some intractable issue or battling away for provision, it's a real reminder that those breakthroughs can and do come, and when they do they're like rays of sunshine.

So thank you for sharing !

That sounds great! I think a lot of children mature as they get older, ASD or not. We have our yearly paed app tomorrow, and I can't believe the changes from age 3 to age 4

Oh, that's lovely.

Well done mini-milady [grin}

This does pose a provision question. Along with everything else DS has also started to mimic actions and speech too, not in an echolalic (?) way but meaningfully, like a younger NT child does.

The Ed Psych came to see him 4 weeks ago and I was a bit er, negative about DS while he was getting evidence for his report. I still haven't received it and he is starting MS pre-school soon so do you think if and when it comes I should amend it to reflect this improvement or just let it stand given that nothing in the way of help has happened?

Plenty of time to update later perhaps?

I think I would leave the report as is stands but I'm far from an expert on such things.

Well done to your ds.
