what is a realistic amount of salt to have on a statement

ds1 is going through the statement process he is 3.8 initially thought to have asd but this has been ruled out and his dx now is expressive language disorder.
I have just received the report for his salt that is going towards his statement we are hoping for a place a speech unit, in the report is states to meet the objectives (which are ds1's targets) he would 20 sessions a year of approx 60 minutes. These sessions can include training other people, meeting with me, writing reports etc.
Obviously if he doesnt get a placement he will have salt in school and this doesnt seem a lot to me.
Just wondering if this was an average amount or am i being unrealistic. HELP?

Hi again as you know ourdc are very similar

Ds had a statment that was meant togive him salt visit each half term but know they struggled to even give that so by that standards 20 is not bad but would suggest you insist on a minimum amount of contact time with ds otherwise it could end up as 20 phonecalls amnd might never see your ds

I have warned the lea here that if I'm forced into ms with ds that I will be going the whole way to get 1 hr a week of contact time with a salt for ds as well as daily salt program with a suitalbly trained lsa and that all teachers lsa are fully trained in signing and must be a recognised course and made themchamge little words like should to must .
So it might be worth checking statment also ask if not in unit what kind of supporthe will be offered within the class room and what kind of training support staff will have etc as teaching a child that struggled with sounds to read phonetically is whole new ball game

yep thought i would have to insist on minimum contact time if no unit. proposed statement is due to middle june, that was just salt report so they may even cut the 20 hours.
i am sure once it comes though it will be picked over with a mine tooth comb.
thanks for that - wont kick up a fuss about 20 hours though (yet)

Have you got any independant reports ?.there my ace in the pocket if Lea don't play ball though to be fair they have not been to bad so far

none but tbh they have been great with him. he had a 1-2-1 available at his pre-school even when he stopped needing it as was able to mix with other children. he got into his nursery with no problems. He had very regular salt and i have no complaints. i am hoping they are the same with the statement.
obviously if the dont ball play we will get a private salt report. but the ed pysch report was very accurate and basically said he needs to be with other children with similar problems at same sort of level.

Our son's says 1/2 hour a week 1:1 direct therapy from qualified salt, followed through with work in small group each week with qualified salt, separate time every day with ta to work on salt goals and salt goals incorporated throughout day's activities.
Is only good bit in Final Statement. (Assessing salt did write he was unresponsive and given lack of time couldn't assess him so this all came from LA.)
