We have just been offered a council house, we put our name forward for 2 this week, the first one was the one we really wanted as it was close enough to dd1's school and in the catchment area for the SN school we are trying to get dd2 into. We have just been offered our 2nd choice which would mean moving dd1 (AS) from her school and it means our aplication for dd2 for the sn school will be a waist of time and we would have to apply for another school (we are running out of time to do this), the school in in another county so this will effect her statement which we are in the process of getting. The house is also a lot further away from dh's work.

We have been waiting for a year to get a house and i'm worried if we turn it down we wont be offered another one for a while.

What do we do?

a) turn it down, continue to struggle in our tiny 2 bed with me and dd sleeping on the sofa nd wait for something closer to become available?

b) move, which will upset dd1 having to move schools, try and get dd2 into the other sn school (which may be imposable)?

So confussed, i don't want to upset dd1 by moving her away from her friends (the few she has) but dd2 needs her own room so badly.

What would you do?

Not sure how long we have got to accept the offer, we need to fill in a form and hand it in on tuesday but i think we then get a chance to look inside and the chance to turn it down.

Dh is going to phone up on tuesday and ask a few questions, there is also the possability that the person who got the other property (the one we wanted) may pull out. Its just anoying that its bank holiday so we cant do anything until tuesday (which is giving us too much time to think).

Apparently we are aloud to turn down 3 properties before it effects our chances of being housed, we are also in the process of applying for another part of Dorset (different council).

We have decided not to take the house , i feel if we take it, the stress of moving further away from family, the stess of moving dd1 from school, plus dd2's school entry being messed up that it would all be to much for us, i feel that it could put mine and dh's relationship at risk (i don't feel by moving to this house that i can be mentaly strong enough to support dh who hates moving and suffers from depression ).

We are going to hand the forms in for the other council area on wed in hope to be housed closer to my family (so we can have more suport), this will also move us closer to better schools and dd2's SN school (if she gets a place).

I know its going to be hard waiting for another house and we may have to re-arrange our house so dd2 can have our bedroom.

I feel really stupid for applying for the house in the first place and dh blames me for causing all this stress, next time i will look into it more before jumping in.

Thank you all for your advice.
