Following on from last thread, i now have a copy and info and would appreciate your comments!

Schools SEN budget is £25,444

There is no maximum or minimum number it covers

Statemented pupils 2, SA plus 15, school action 21

All file has in it is correspondence and IEPS, surely it should contain more?

Apart from that it contains - A note is written on a incident on 16/1/09 where ds ran away and hid and they couldnt find him (a week after ds started school)

Note from SENCO about OT phone conversation on 11/11/08.

Note from SENCO about first and only telephone conversation with me on 12/11/08 prior to ds starting school with no IEP in place. Starts 'ds's mum phoned school to speak with me, despite being told by OT the day before that i would call her in my own time.

Next 'Ds is the youngest of 3 boys, brothers are 12 and 15. Mum says that he is capable of playing well with them. She reports that ds is very adult like in his opinion of fairness. I suggested that to a degree he has and is, growing up in house of 4 adults. This appeared to be quite a revelation to her, and she said 'oh ive never thought of it like that'

Mum states he rarely gets into trouble, though there was an incident when he hit anoth child on the head - again in his eyes not his fault since the other child was not sharing!!

Debs, its makes me so cross, why would they watch a child struggle, then report there is nothing wrong and more importantly why are they allowed to get away with it.

You couldnt get away it,in any other profession, why are they an exception to the rule. If i was to watch my own child struggle and then deny it, it would be considered neglect.

There is a big difference between not understanding or having very limited knowledge, but some of the things are just bare faced lies.

If you question them about telling lies, you look like a loon, because teachers would never do such a thing!

I completely agree Claw. I so think they lie because they don't know what to do sometimes and the two things can go hand in hand as they try to cover their arses.

I completely agree that sometimes they just lie. I have been there when questioning provision and being told a whole pack of lies about what the teachers were doing. Incredible lies. Lies also to experts going in which seem to make no sense.

You do look like a loon as well if you say they're lying.

Our community paed was very good about this at the meeting and said 'of course you are doing x,y and z aren't you?' SENCO looks blankly back and says 'of course, I mean you have to don't you?'. Doc says 'you'd be surprised how many schools don't because they don't know what they're doing or are too proud to ask for help etc but I'm sure you wouldn't be so foolish'.

I thought that was a good way of saying 'liar' without saying 'liar'

You are doing BRILLIANTLY don't let them knock you down

Thanks Debs, just feeling very alone in all this at mo. Everything seems to be in a total mess and i am the only one who understands it (i know you guys too, but professionals etc)

Im having to explain myself more and more to all professionals and trying to explain what appears to be a conspiracy between school and first OT is not easy!

Ds has sensory dysfunction.......what did OT say in her report.......she didnt write a report.......why.......and so on and on and on!

More good news, just got back from a meeting with CAMHS after 1:1 assessment sessions for the last 10 weeks.

Their findings are that ds needs lots of help to make sense of the world as he is very confused and anxious. They have offered weekly session for a year.

She also commented that during her sessions, it became clear to her, that ds and i have a very good relationship and i have a very good understanding of ds and ds knows this and it is very important that ds has someone who can understand him.

Obviously not good news that ds has these difficulties, but good news that someone has identified this and im not 'over anxious'.

They will be writing a report. Feel very relieved, just having my concerns confirmed.

So pleased for you Claw, well, not the details, obviously, but just the fact that you have found somebody who seems to understand.
From my experience I would say it is worth praising this lady, keeping up communication and getting her to help in every way you can to get the help DS needs at school.

debs40 · 06/05/2010 17:13

It is a relief when someone is on 'your side' isn't it? I am pleased you are getting a bit of support as it's a lonely life otherwise isn't it?

Thanks Positive and Debs, i was worried about CAMHS as id said in the past, i felt that i was been assessed, before they got around to ds. Especially after our initial visit when i was told they had not seen any signs of a social communication disorder.

Even though i knew after meeting ds 10 times, they would see what i see, it was still a bit nerve racking. There is always that doubt, that would say we dont know what on earth you are talking about!

Still had a lump in my throat when she told me about the things that ds had spoken to her about. He told her he is an alien he had also described that it was his eyes, ears and mouth that were alien ie different and she feels he is very aware that he is very different to everyone else and that he is trying desperately to understand. He had also expressed to her that he doesnt understand when people talk or what is expected of him

No surprises in what she said, but very sad to hear out loud.

Yes Debs, it helps so much for your own sanity to have 'experts' on side. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted.

Positive, i will still have meetings with them, once every two weeks to start with, but rather than assessing me!, the meetings will be to discuss whether the therapy is improving ds's behaviour etc. Im always very suspicious of everyone, after experiences with school and first OT, i now have a bit of faith. I will have no problem telling them how brill they are

Ds2 has just cooked dinner! the day just keeps on getting better
