Dd2 has been up sice 2 am and is driving me nuts.

Me and dh have had enough .

Dd2 woke at 12 pm, managed to get her back to sleep and then she woke at 2am full of the joys of spring, screeching, singing, chucking toys around and jumping on the sofa .

She's still wide awake (still on the go) and has to go to nursery in a bit, she's spat her drink all over her table, mixed it with milk from her breakfast and put her toys in it , she doesn't take any notice of being told off (just laughs).

Dh and i are so tired, i have had enough of sleepless nights, all i want is one nights sleep.

Sorry for the rant.

I do empathise. We keep planning to take it in turns to book a local Travelodge (£9 - £19 advanced booking) for the night, just to get that 'one nights sleep'. Sods law dictates that you still won't be able to sleep but it could be worth a try?

It is hard to function isn't it? Hope things get better. You could also go down the medication route if you haven't already, as we finally did

Donkey- both dd's are on melatonin, it seems to work for dd1 but no longer works for dd2 , maybe we could get something stronger?

I like the travelodge idea, i would love a bed to myself for a night .

Poor you, its like torture isnt it!

Ds's sleeping 'pattern' (not that he had much of a routine anyway) has gone mad, after the Easter break.

He has not been going to sleep until 4am since Sunday and up at 8am. He is highly agitated and irritable.

The joys of school and school holidays eh!

Al1son · 23/04/2010 10:01

Sleep deprivation has to be the most effective form of torture ever. I am soooo thankful that DD1 has reached an age where she just reads/watches dvds in the night now. I really need my sleep and she is exactly the opposite. Seeing that cheery face which wants to play in the early hours is the worst feeling. I wonder now how I got through those years.

Really feeling for you. I hope the GP can find something which works.

marne , what kind of melatonin is she on? liquid, fast release capsules or slow release capsules or tablets?.
dd4 has fast relese capsules (great at first , now dont work either ).
ds3 is on tablets , hes not asd , but adhd and has 3 a night (8 yrs old).
peadi tried dd4 with slow -capsules, but the little treasure "knows" they`re different and wont take them.
you can get refered to a sleep nurse who does sn kids.
am trying the lavender oil at the moment , will try anything .

Marne · 23/04/2010 16:29

She's on fast release capsules 3mg (i think).

We saw a sleep nurse 2 weeks ago, all she said is 'dd2 needs her own room with nothing in it (no distractions) and we need to stop her from watching tv before bed' , there was no mention of changing her melatonin.

I don't think it has helped that we have got a new sofa, dd2 spends half the night (when i give in) asleep on the sofa, the new one is stiff and cold (leather effect) unlike our old one (even i'm finding it hard to sleep on).

ask your peadi to look at the dose.... dd4 started on 3mg , now shes up to 6 mg. if she could take slow release (the one that is like 100s and 1000s inside the capsule, fast is powdered). might help.
an idea is to give one of each....fast to get off to sleep and slow to help her stay asleep.
... strange you mentioned the sofa ...our is leather and dd4 does the same( or heads for the tiles on the kitchen floor) .
is mini marne temp sensative too?

saintlydamemrsturnip · 23/04/2010 23:22

Ds1 was hyper tonight. It is new or full moon or something?

Much sympathy. Agree about melatonin.

saintlydamemrsturnip · 23/04/2010 23:23

Oh it's approaching full moon- could be in for a few days of it then (we're usually ok once we actually reach full moon, it's the 5 days or so beforehand...)

sphil · 23/04/2010 23:31

Oooohhh.....DS2 has also been hyper at bedtime this last week. I was putting it down to school.

othermother · 23/04/2010 23:49

You have my sympathies. Tom's recently started veering between not sleeping until stupid O'clock and going to bed at 9ish/9.30 and waking at about 2.30am and staying awake. It's doing my nut in.

MojoLost · 24/04/2010 07:42

I feel your pain marne
DS has been waking up at all hours this week as well. Dh and I are exhausted, I don't know how we manage to work or anything.
THe worst thing is that we haven't had a good night sleep for 4 years, saturdays, sundays, holidays whatever.
We are seriously considering taking turns in a lodge somewhere so that one of us can function.
I just hope this improves
