I have been the main 'carer' of my partners son now for the last year, although his school seems to think he has come on 'leaps and bounds' since we took over his care, I am at a loss as to how to cope. His general hygiene, reading etc is improving greatly (maybe because he is now getting the support required....Im no expert) but how do I get him to want to have a conversation and not just get 'one word answers' or grunts. I work in a mainstream school with many young people with different sorts of problems and seem to be able to 'connect' with them, but at home I am aware that for some reason I am unable to 'connect' totally with someone I am totally devoted to. He will be attending college soon and I am so concerned with his communication problems and his inability to retain even the most basic instructions. Please help as I am so worried he will not have the support he has had in his specialist school
