Yesterday we expected to find out where dd2 is on the spectrum but....

We didn't . When she was dx'd last summer with ASD we were told to come back in 6 months to see if they could give a more detailed dx. The pead is now saying that she won't be able to say until dd2 has been at school a while (she starts in september) but she suspects dd2 is high functioning, she said dd2 will not be dx'd with Aspergers as her speech is still delayed (even though it has improved a lot), she said in a years time dd2 could be functioning at a similar level as her sister (Aspergers) but may still struggle with speech.
Although we didn't get the answer/dx we were looking for i am kind of happy as i was worried that if dd2 was dx'd with HFA it would effect her application to the sn school.

The pead thinks we have made the right choice by applying for the sn school as she was also worried about the ms school merging 3 years together next year (which would mean dd1 and dd2 being in the same class).

So not a total waist of time but not what we expected.

Also managed to get dd2's physio appointment chased up for her feet turning inwards, the pead told me to remember to tell the physio that dd2 has ASD (like i would forget, plus i think she might notice) and she said her feet turning inwards could be linked to the ASD.

Doctors seem reluctant to place children on the spectrum these days. Perhaps it's for the best: fewer labels and perhaps more attention to individualities? I have been following your DD2 through MN and she's doing so very well.
I am left puzzled as to how a school could get away with merging 3 years together, but then this is a new world for me

Thanks sc13- i am slightly about the school merging classes, i think its a mad idea, a meeting was held for parents a few weeks ago and the head will not change his mind (it all comes down to money), he pulled me to one side at the end as he could see i was worried (and angry) and he has asked me to arrange a meeting with him. I just hope dd2 gets a place at SN's school as theres no way i want both dd's in the same class.

My DD was in a split level class this year (3-year-olds and 5-year-olds). It was a disaster for her!
She's near the end of a 6-day observation in an SN unit which has gone really well. Fingers crossed she gets a place for next year. She's a bit like your DD2 - very bright but struggles a lot with speech (plus she's bilingual!!) and mainstream was OK for nursery but is proving less good now she's 5.
