Supportive lightweight buggy/ pushchair?

DS has poor muscle tone and now he's wanting to be looking around at the world, he needs to be out of his carrycot, but he doesn't have enough muscle tone to go into the seat unit of the pram we'd bought.

Does anyone know of a SN buggy or mainstream one that's very supportive, perhaps with a slightly curved back rest, rather than a flat one, so it hugs his body iyswim.

The SN buggies I've seen (baby jogger, mountain buggy and maclaren major) don't seem supportive and snuggly enough for a littley (he's 7.5 months).

Hope someone can help :O)

I did suggest to a previous poster with similar query the Loola Confort which faces front and back and reassuring for babe as we found it very comfy and supportive for CP with low trunk tone. He's still enjoys it for long trips (he's 19 mo) but also has a bog standard chicco lightweight buggy for short trips which he can manage in now. The Loola also has variable seat positions and can be used from birth so v. supporting and comfy soft. Go to mothercare and try him out in one. You can get second hand on ebay as they are expensive from new and heavy compared to buggies but are a whole travel system thing

What about a Quinny Buzz? The seat unit on that is made of memory foam, so quite snug. Is he a small 7.5 months old?

There is a seller shop on Ebay that clais to sell 2nd hand ones, but really they are brand new. You can get them for half price.

Although maybe not so much lightweight as it is big, but folds down quite small compared to some prams out there.

you could also try putting an otto bock kidsert in the pram you have.
its a liner that goes in a regular buggy to give more support, they are around £60 from here

All of those ideas sound great.

DS is really big- he's on the 75th centile for length and weight, but a small seat unit might be more useful as it might be more supportive, and by the time he outgrows it, his muscle tone might be good enough to use the pram we have already.

I will investigate the pushchairs and the insert looks fab too, not just for our pushchair, but for the highchair also.
I might ask the insert company if I can try one and send it back if it's not right.

I'm off to look at ebay to investigate the pushchairs now.

Thanks for all the help. I'll let you know how I get on

Ive just stumbled on your thread and as luck would have it Im trying to find the same sort of thing. My DS is 10mths but still cant sit unaided, he has hypotonia so his trunk and neck are still quite week. We currently have a lovely normal off-road buggy but the straps and seat unit design mean he can only lie down in it, otherwise he just slumps into a heap!
I know my DH will kill me for even thinking of getting another pram (already had around 5 for both DS and his older DD!).
Hes quite long and Ive heard that in the quinny tall kids often run out of room.
Interested in the loola, as I still love to have him facing me. Hes a total mummys boy and hates it if Im not around!!

Sorry for hjkacking your thread, just interestd to see what you decide.

I know a few SN parents that use the bugaboo, also the city elite.

I have a loola for sale, the seat unit is quite comfortable and padded, we used it for dd2 when we went on holiday last year (as it folds up small).

Thanks for all your help with this. I've been investigating and reading reviews for the past few days.

As DS is so big, I've been investigating the Maxi Cosi Mura. The seat unit seems bigger than the Buzz and it has swivel air tyres at the front, so it won't jolt DS's head too much. (He has a brain condition and doesn't like it when he goes up and down kerbs in his current pram). I saw the Buzz and thought it looked good and then found out about the Mura which is made by the same company. It also has a seat made from memory foam.

I investigated the Loola Up as I need a continuous handle, but reviews said that the seat didn't last long and as DS is already as big as a 1 year old I thought I'd better not risk it!

I used to have a Bugaboo FRog and found it a pain to unfold and set up. I have a Baby Jogger for when DS is older- left over from my older son, but I have decided I want him rear facing for now as he's so little :O)

I was really after a lightweight buggy, but I think I'll have to wait for that until he gets older and hopefully less floppy.

Thanks for all your advice. I'll let you know the outcome when I actually buy the pushchair when I've seen them all irl.

I have a Mura for my daughter who also has poor muscle tone. The seat is very comfy and it does lay completely flat when she falls asleep. It is great as it can be forward or rear facing and is easy to change over - as long as the child isn't in it! The negatives are that the rear wheel base is very wide and doesn't easily fit through some doors. Also, the harness is quite big for younger babies. It is only just fitting my daughter properly now (10 months). You'll also need a fairly big car as it doesn't fold up very small. Oh and good muscles as its heavy!

As a result I think this is a great pushchair for doing lots of outdoor walking, its smooth, comfy and easy to push, but not so good for going around shops as it is big.
