dd2 toothgrinds. always has done. its horrible at night when you can hear it in the next bdroom.

just regular dental checks.

takemesomewheresunny · 14/04/2010 11:00

my sis has done it for about 20y, dentist gave some exercises which helped and a mouth guard (she does not wear it). her jaw can ach when really bad. otherwise as misdee says

If its bad and wears the teeth down prematurely the dentist might suggest a gumshield for night-time.

It may also be worth asking to be referred to your local special needs dental service if you're not already on their books? They might have the best up-to-date advice?

My dd's ot suggested chewy tubes, ice lolly, frozen carrots,
frozen grapes and massage on the side bones of the face and few chewing gum together but that caused tooth decay so we use sugar free mix with plain paper to give it some texture.I hope some thing might help.

My DS (ASD) grinds his teeth, it's AWFUL I can hear it all over the house when he does it and age 5 his dentist says it is evident he does it. Said could give him a guard but he is up and down all night so a bit pointless.

He has a lovely SN dentist, would definately recommend looking into seeing if there is one in your area think most areas have one on NHS, DS's is lovely.

We've just got back from BIBIC and they suggested taking 'New era tissue salts Magnesium Phosphate'. They seemed quite confident it would stop her doing it. DD2 grinds her teeth all the time. We havn't bought them yet so can't tell you if it works or not.

donkeyderby · 16/04/2010 22:40

Yes, please do let us know if Magnesium Phosphate works, and if you find the rationale behind this treatment, it would be interesting to know.

DS has recently started teeth grinding after years of not doing it - he used to do it when he was little. I was told by his dentist years ago that it is only a problem if they do it at night as well, which DS doesn't

mumgoingcrazy · 17/04/2010 20:19

That's very good to know, re teeth grinding at night not being a problem. DD2 only does it in the day too.

Well DD2 started on the Magnesium Phosphate today, we'll see how it goes and I'll let you know.

let us know if it works. DD1 does it really bad at night, horrible sounds
