Rejecting Proposed Statement -

We got DS1's proposed statement through and whilst it is better than I was expecting there still needs a few amendments. It has a box to tick whether you want a meeting with the LEA or not to discuss it - is it worth having a meeting? I can't get through to IPSEA and SOS!SEN atm (though will keep trying) but tbh I would prefer to not go to a meeting as childcare is very difficult for me to get atm but i don't want to appear obstructive either.

My experience of two meetings was that they had no effect whatsoever - despite what was said in the second one in particular (which was with the person writing the document).
We also did three detailed letters detailing how the proposed statement needed to be amended and carried those points over into how the amended proposed statement needed to be amended. The Final Statement has taken some of those comments on board, but is still lacking in my view. We do get the school I wanted for ds though and feel they will do right by him as far as they are able.

In the last letter we said about three times that we just wanted the Final Statement issuing without any more meetings as we didn't feel any significant changes would come out of that process (and ds would have lost the place we were hoping he'd get at this school).
I wouldn't be surprised if they're just waiting for the tribunal forms now since it's quite clear we're not happy with the contents.

Thanks, I suspect it is better to keep all dealings with them in writing so think I will tick no. Hope you get the statement sorted.

intresting because i have informed lea that will allow one change and one meeting only and then will request the finalised statement so can go to tribunal if needs and already have my independant reports which they have used themselves just cherry picked

yes thats my worry if they offer the place i want in part 4 dont want it delaying any further as ds is out of school

We had some small amendments; didn't ask for a meeting but did everything in writing, then called the case worker on the phone to double-check, and she said she would include them (they were relatively minor though).
Haven't got to the end of this though; still waiting to hear from the schools we chose to see if they think they can meet DS's needs...

Glad they accepted your amendments o.k SC13

DS1's statement does not include any SALT/Specialist Teacher/Autism Teacher contact at all, just make reference to woolly "External Professionals" to undertake monitoring for Annual Review. And all programmes and IEP to be drawn up by the school and parents . I think termly visits would be enough but DS1's Specialist Teacher said I would have to really fight to get it on the statement.

I think the school would love the statement how it is, but I am not so keen on them having all the power IYKWIM. The funding also states can be used on whole class, small group or individually. I am slightly conflicted as DS1 needs some small group work to help with his social skills but wonder if I am leaving him vulnerable if it's not nailed down to individual 1:1

I've also heard on the grapevine that our school of choice rings parents if their child has toiletting accidents for them to come and change them; DS1 has chronic constipation and can go months with zero accidents and them go through a hellish period of accident after accident so I am now waivering over school choice too..
