Good day, but I'm left speechless by one moron

My friend H and I filmed up at the ice rink in Altrincham today. Got to Altrincham tram stop, and realised we'd need to cross over the platforms. There's a walkway to do it if you can't use the many steps up to the footbridge. H is a wheelchair user - keep that bit in mind, it's important!

We go to the information desk and ask to use this assisted level crossing (I dunno what you'd call it!) and we're told that the station manager would only let us through with a loyalty card, which you can only get if you live in Greater Manchester.

"Sorry, you'll have to use the footbridge." says the man, while looking at my mate, in her wheelchair! We ended up going through town by Tesco because this guy was just...ugh. GMPTE will certainly be getting one irate email from me regarding that. Words fail me.

HOWEVER,

So that I don't end this post on a low note, the rink staff were amazing, getting us on and off the ice safely, and just generally being really nice and polite and H loved her first ever skating experience, so we're definitely going back, now that we know the tram situation!

For those that don't know, this was all for a uni documentary.

He's a twat lollipop, glad the skating went well and he didn't spoil your day x

You should have stuck to your guns, and not be fobbed off by someone who obviously thinks people in wheelchairs can just get up and walk when they feel like it! He's been watching too much Little Britain!

If you'd called the papers, I bet he would have suddenly found his spare card to get you through!

What a total moron!
Glad you had a nice time.

What an idiot! Had to laugh at the "he's been watching too much Little Britain" though. But seriously, that Little Britain character has a lot to answer for - I never managed to find it funny

Actually, he wasn't the only idiot. One woman when we got on the train to Manchester, waited behind us, saw that she couldn't get on there and then, sighed very loudly and said to her kids, "Oh, come on, we'll have to go somewhere else." Well EXCUSE ME! Stupid woman also put her hand on my mate's shoulder and said, "Hope you don't fall off the ramp." Thanks

Same woman, when we were getting off, we were waiting for the ramp, "Oh, you get off ahead of me girls." Erm, HOW? I think some people are actually stupid, I really do.

Oh, should really give a rundown of the GOOD people we met, just for balance.

All the train people who helped us with ramps, and even did all the walking backwards down them with the wheelchair. I don't like going backwards because I can't see!

The rink staff. Got us on the ice, off the ice and were friendly through the whole process. Didn't charge my mate for skate hire (she wanted a pic standing at the entrance to the ice in skates) because I was there filming.

The man who, when there were no staff about to help us off the ice, offered, and then obliged by helping me get the chair off the rink. And even said to me, "OK love, you stand off the ice and pull, I'll push, I've got pretty good balance." Lovely thing to do and very friendly.

The person who pointed us in the direction of the disabled boarding point on the tram, and those at Altrincham who ensured we were on the right tram back to the station.

Also the girl I overheard while off the ice doing some filming of my mate, "Oh wow, that's well cool, she's skating on wheels!" Just made me smile.
