Hi Ladies, no long time no speak Hope everyone and their dc's are well.

Just a quickie really

Oral Dyspraxia - am fairly sure that DS has this in that he struggles to pucker up for a kiss, lick his lips, poke his tongue out, say the letter l, blow etc etc. As a result his speech can sound a bit slushy. Is this something that SALT can/will help with or is it something he can learn in time with help and practice from me? Am hopefully due a review with paed and SALT in May/June so could ask then if necessary.

Thanks

Definately need guidance from a SLT, and assessment - though after that it'll probably be down to you

Hiya-SALT has been valuable with this-lots of practise with a mirror...licking hundreds and thousands...but I have to say with DS (now 5) the sticking out of his tongue almost seemed like a reflex that he eventually just developed...its the same as asking him to close his eyes..he just cant seem to do this to order and often now sticks his tongue out instead...the messaging clearly gets muddled on the way out...he understands perfectly what you are asking him to do but motor development just gets confused...his speech improved dramatically with more tongue movement though so worth persevering. Ultimately I was never really sure whether it was salt or natural development which allowed him to stick tongue out...maybe a combo of both?
