Well, I'm planning to film in Altrincham, Greater Manchester with my friend H on Monday. We need to go by train and then tram. I need the idiots guide to doing both with a wheelchair, neither of us have done it (I've done the route on my own so know where I'm going).
How do we get to the Metrolink platform at Manchester Picadilly?
How do we get on/off trains/trams?
How do we get from Altrincham tram stop to the ice rink??

Any help greatly appreciated. Gonna pop this in chat as well to see if it gets a response there.

map of station with lifts and metrolink shown. info here about booking assistance, might be worth giving them a ring. Hope this is some use.

contact details for the ice rink in case you haven't already found them are on the links on the left of the page. Sometimes it's just easier to ring them and ask how far the tram stop is.

Thank you I've been in contact with the rink because I've filmed there before. Just need to work out which is the accessible way from the tram stop to the rink. It's literally next door!

here says something about accessibility, hoping it's just a case of using a lift to access the footbridge to cross sides, it's hard to tell.

This won't work as a link for some reason but will work if you copy and paste into the internet address bar (hope you get what I mean, sure it has a proper name!) www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=wa14+1ba&countryCode=GB#map=53.38694,-2.34692|19|256&be=30838339|North&bd= useful_information&loc=GB:53.38661:-2.34847:16|wa14 1ba|WA14 1BA it will show a really good birds eye view so you can see how to walk round if there is no lift. Hope you can get it to work!

sorry, seems there are no lifts looks like you will have to walk round, doesn't look too far though. Hope someone who actually lives there can give you a better picture.

there are definitely lifts down to the metrolink platforms at Picadilly. trams are usually level to the platform, so that shouldn't be a problem. I can't visualise the way from tram station to rink, will ask DH or my mum, as they are better at directions than me - see what they reckon most wheelchair friendly route would be.

LollipopViolet · 09/04/2010 18:59

Thank you both I think I've figured out where the lifts are to the metrolink in Picadilly, but as far as I can remember, Altrincham tram stop just has a footbridge so may have to walk through town to Tesco and to the rink that way!

Right, booked assistance for Monday. Would like to congratulate Virgin trains as the woman on the phone was SO helpful even though I'd never booked assistance before, walked me through it all, gave me all my reference numbers and said it was actually cheaper to buy my tickets at the station with my railcard than it was over the phone with her (maybe a debit card charge? I dunno) so we've got seats booked on 1 train there, 1 back. Only the trams and getting to the rink to tackle now
