Just small bit of research if you dont mind.....?

What items of clothing/equipment do you need for your children but cant find? eg elastic waist trousers/deep seat etc.

and why?

would you buy clothing specifically designed for Children with additional needs?

is fashion and style important to you and your child?

thankyou (I am a name changer btw)

Elasticated waist bands are hard to find as they get older and trousers that have enough room to acomadate a nappy.

I would only buy specifically designed clothes if they were as cheep as high street brands as dd2 seems to get very dirty and get through a lot of clothes in a year.

Bums wear out on a bumshuffler!

Shoes don't fit over splints/afo's.

Agree re nappy room and elastic waists

Trousers that accommodate a nappy aren't so important with DS1, as he has pretty skinny hips, but finding trousers that do stay up that he can fasten easily is more of a challenge. He lives in Next jogging bottoms when not in school uniform, but his school trousers usually end up with inbuilt ventilation because he can't fasten them, or puts them on back to front. M&S do make elasticated trousers in his size, but they're too short before they actually fit him around the waist. They also don't last 2 minutes, or else I'd be all over them for chunkier DS2 when he starts school in September.

Both boys ruin clothes pretty quickly, so I'd be reluctant to pay a premium for anything specially designed.

All those suggestions are good but I would say fashion - or rather not being old fashioned & dated looking are important!

Some kids can be cruel & will take the pee out of a NT child with old fashioned clothes, it would just be an extra thing for them to pick on.
I don't mean designer labels etc but no reason why it can't be functional & trendy!

shoes that go on to feet that cannot walk and hang straight down. DD is 11 and has to wear two or three pairs of socks. Have NOT for the last few years (since tendons so stiff) ever found anything resembling a shoe that goes on. Adult slipper things for old ladies don't come small enough. Need it for warmth, protection, and now fashion too.
Sweatshirts with big head holes.
teen bras which do up at the front. (Not old lady style)
and I agree about trendy elastic waist trousers.

bibs that don't look like bibs

My main wish if I had the early years with ds whose development was slower, again would be affordable basics that work with a nappy up to middle childhood such as body suits, sleep suits, waterproof all in ones or warm ware. Inexpensive nonslip soft shoes/ booties for bigger feet would have been useful.
Long sleeve white soft jersey cotton polo/rugby shirts with push up sleeves for school(Ds cannot manage buttons or stiff clothing. Elasticated pull up school trousers (that look like other childrens)up to adult sizes. Seamless school socks.
Cost is primary as we need lots of changes. I would love a website that could source these things.

When I worked at a SN school we had a sixth form dt project making v high rise dungarees for someone who tended to put their hands in the nappy

Was quite a good project actually everyone had a stage and got to use the sewing machine !
