My daughter ( 4.8) has cold and fever all the time. She also had a lot of ear infections when she was younger. I know most children catch the occassional cold, but my daughter always get it. Is it just her or children with social communication disorder get it more often? It seems Im always in the doctor surgery! When shes sick she can go from one minute being withdrawn to the next minute crying and lashing out. I just don`t know what to do.

well my DD1 who has ASD is one of those kids that is always sick, especially under the age of 6years. She can spike a temp quick as anything but never find out why. Sorry not much help to you

My daughter who is 12 with GDD still gets loads of colds and is snotty all winter. I now think that her nose physiology must be slightly odd with narrower tubes or something! It also took her a long time to learn how to blow properly.

With a younger child it could just be that massive initial exposure that you get to virues at school and will settle down over the next few years.

DS1 seems to catch every cold going and it doesn't help that he has asthma, too. He doesn't have to have a cold to spike a fever, though. He seems to run very hot and frequently has a temperature of 38 or just over. He eats like a horse (when he's not being what he calls a "meal starver") and is as skinny as a rake and I'm guessing he has a pretty high metabolic rate as a result of his hyperactivity.

He has had fewer colds in Y1 than in the greenhouse that is the foundation unit at school, though. That place is an incubator for snot and puke germs!

its always ears/nose/chest with ds...mucus thick YUK!!! This coincided with starting CF/GF diet... he was never ill before this! I am sure the gluten (which he used to poo 15 times a day and never put weight on ...coming out of his system and was ill bit like cold turkey temp/flu symptoms! Ds went two years of 3wks ill/6wks well in cycles...then much better now usually every 3 months ill for a wk max! The only thing I love about ds getting really sick/high temp is he has a large communication/development burst after it....roll on next illness;)

I did read somewhere once to let the child burn promotes neuro healing/metal toxicity breakdown....but dont know where or if creditble!

Works with ds though

My 3 ds, all of whom have difficulties, have had many ear infections when younger, and the youngest, still gets a lot of colds with thick cattarah,(?).
The GP has explained, that dc tubes in their ears and noses are narrower than adults, and this makes them more prone to infections.
I always have Calpol/Ibupfofen in the house, the GP said fine to use often, as long as stick to directions.
Perhaps, as your dd gets older, her health will naturally improve.
People have differing opinions re treating fevers, but, I think in younger dc, it is better to err on the side of caution, as their temp. can rise quickly.

Both of mine are the same, dd1 (AS) seems to have a high temp and cold every few weeks (she has woke up this morning with a hacking cough), dd2(ASD) has had it a few times and also scarlet fever and a d&v bug this year . I seem to spend a lot of time in the doctors (in there most weeks). Dd2 often ends up in a&e with a high temp as she struggles to get it back down and refuses to drink.
