I started a new thread as I didn't think it was fair to hijack that other one. Great to see that you are all still around, I'm more of a lurker nowadays. I'd love to know how you are all getting on as it's been months.

DD2 (now 2.9mo) has been in sn nursery since Sept and after easter will be starting mainstream pre-school with 1:1 2 mornings a week. She has only just learnt to roll over and literally this week has learnt to lie-sit. She's walking in a kaye walker (very tentatively). Her single word vocab is great, she'll say 2 or 3 words when at home, but still single words at school. Her understanding is quite poor though. Sensory wise, tactile defensivness has pretty much gone, visual processing problems have gone and auditory is much much better. We are just finishing our 3rd lot of Therapeutic Listening and will be getting this from OT from now on as part of her sensory diet.

What's your news?????
xx

hi -glad you are well.

friends son started therapeutic listening in the summer. there really has been a difference, though not straight away. one CD in particular - sociability or something like that -seemed to be particularly good.

They have been to nutrition adviser in london, and have now just started gluten free casein free diet and have got various vitamin tablets and various things to take. some small improvements being seen over last few weeks. (although diet is hard work.)

Totalchaos: I've just sent you my address, thank you very much.

Wow that's fanastic progress for you TWT. Yes I'm quite nervous about her starting MS pre-school but her sn school have been pushing me to do it. It's lovely and her 1:1 is fantastic, there aren't any verbal children in her sn class and as DD2 is now very verbal they think it'll bring her on socially. Sounds like M is doing really well. How does the body brushing and deep tissue massage help? Have you got any tips on improving receptive language?

It still blows my mind how Therapeutic Listening works, but whatever it is it's amazing and the best thing we ever did.

Out of interest, do you know of a good website for language disorders? I'm sure there's something on your blog but I don't think I have the address anymore. It has been suggested that DD2 is showing early signs of a language disorder rather than delay but I don't know any more than that.

How is M socially now? Do you still have problems with the children in your area?

Hi IS, glad things are going well. What changes have you seen with the new diet? It is something I've considered but didn't want to do too many therapies and changes at once.

I think DD2 did the same cd, was it early mozart? It was good for DD2 too.

Hi mgc

hard to be specific, and only 3 weeks in, but digestion better, and seems generally happier and more connected in(sort of building on the therapuetic listening gains really)

devientenigma · 18/03/2010 12:45

Hi all, it's great to hear how everyon's progressing.
I don't want to sound negative but not much has changed for us. However things could change soon. Sensory diet has not been followed in school with exception of the listening programme. He is still quite aggressive at home when doing any kind of activity he doesn't like. He is still very repetitve, rigid, routinelike, stimmy and unsociable. Although he is calmer.
Communication is a better where he can now answer yes or no. He's still not brushing his teeth, limited diet etc.
Round here though the profs follow the trend of passing the buck. As he kicks off we must involve the behaviour team rather than dealing with the sensory issue. iykwim. Now the ed psyc is involved with his school refusal. She phoned me yesterday and let me know some of her obs. With the outcome that school for 1 will not be happy. She is also hinting at ASD.
Sorry for sounding so negative on this really positive thread.
MGC did you ever get on facebook?? Or anyone else. If you fancy looking me up, playing scrabble etc.....let me know.
Glad everyone is good anyway.
Take care x

Sorry to hear that Devie, it seems so unfair to have to battle for every little thing on top of having a child with so many needs. How do you feel about the ASD? do you agree?

I still havn't made it onto facebook, out of everyone I know I think I'm the only one not on it yet. I will one day . I'm glad his communication has improved though.

xx
