My dd is in y8 mainstream secondary. She has adhd and odd. The consistant theme throughout her report is lacks attention, concentration, needs to listen, stay focused etc etc.....attitude good, homework hardly done and behaviour poor. Should I approach this at target setting day??

Yes.
Ask them what strategies they are implementing in school to address the problems, and what they recommend you could do at home. In specific terms and clear language.
lacks attention...are they using direct, clear language, or too much woffly chat around instructions?
concentration Where is she seated? What is distracting her? Does she have a checklist when involved in a task, so she can do the first bit and then look to see what the next thing is? Are activities and tasks clearly outlined in steps. and what are they doing if she can't remember everything in her head?
needs to listen To everything? Or can they set a task, get her doing it and check how she's doing once she's started?
stay focused etc etc.....
attitude good So they have a good and willing student to work with if they can get appropriate strategies, materials and support to help her succeed.
homework hardly done Is she writing it in her homework log, can someone write it for her? Can you as the parent keep on top of this and support her at home on a daily basis?
and behaviour poor If you get things wrong with a child who has specific needs that are not being met, then the behaviour deteriorates. Because they need to fill the time doing something if they haven't got a clue what's going on.
Got the Tshirt and matching hat for that one. but my DS's school took all my points on board and worked towards a solution.
Go fight her corner. make a list before you go so you don't forget or get bambozled.

Don't know what happened to my bolding of your words...

Thanks for all this Goblinchild.
I did discuss things you said with the teacher but the answer I got was well what do I expect with her dx.
Targets then ended up setting were for her to try and not chat. If she finds she has nothing to do go and ask for more work. Ask to be moved in some of her classes so she can be more sensible.
I know it's probably not the best of outcomes but I will try to push this more.
Thanks again anyway.

Hi
i'm glad I found your thread, as i was wondering whether to post a similar one or not. My ds 14 dx of AS had a recent report sounds uncannily like your daughter's. Good attainment but "lacks focus, distracted, distracting, calling out in class, lacks understanding of the context of classroom'" blah blah blah.
I am fed up today as at parents evening last night was told he was rude and domineering and often lectured the class, by a rude and ignorant teacher. She looked at his report and said " well I don't think he can be at B for English", so not only content to insult ds but rubbishes her colleagues professional opinion. I honestly don't even know if the teachers know he has AS, as he never goes to SEN or wants to ask for any help.
A sympathetic teacher we saw said she thought he also was dyspraxic and asked for an assessment.
I am hoping to get some advice here about how to deal with the school as he only joined in September and was at an independent before where things ran very differently.
Thanks and I hope you get some good results from your recent targets. how often are they reviewed by the way?
