As the title say, ds1 was discharged in feb after seeing the paed since june 08. we are no further foward than we were then.

wondering what the next step would be-in an ideal world Id take him to see a specialist privately but at £100ph its something that our budget just does not stretch to currently.

Does anyone here have private insurance and if so can you request assessments through them?

Any help or comments appreciated

A cheaper option maybe to ask your GP to refer to CAMHs for a 2nd opinion?

I agree with Wassup - ask for a 2nd opinion - you are legally entitled to it.

I did ask for camhs refferal last year but gp wouldnt as ds under paed at the time. Think thats probably the best move since hes now been discharge seems there no reason they cant refer him.

Had he still be under the care of the Paed it would have been up to the Paed to refer him to CAMHS, but as the Paed has returned him to GP care then the GP can now refer him to CAMHS.

Being left high and dry after 21 months of Paed assessment is simply not on - and you may have to state that quite forcefully.

Best wishes

Thanks, thats exactly how we feel actually. We are no further forward and no more knowledgable than 18months ago, meanwhile ds gets harder to handle. It seems they dont want to take action until he does something extremely dnagerous like burn the house down or something. At first they said they wouldnt do any assessments till he turned 6, then when he turned 6 they suddenly said they are discharging him as they received a good report from school+school ed psych. hes got managable at school since he started but he still has problems and ed psych met him once and observed him within the classroom for 25mins. Still does not change the way he is(and always has been) at home though, but apparently that doesnt matter, as the problems are mainly at home not at school, it must be our parenting apparently.
Cant wait for ds2 to start at the same school in sept so they can see how very very different they are, perhaps then we'll be taken seriously.

A competent Paed should seek the views of parents and school - not just really on Ed Pysch and school who both have their own (cost-saving) agendas.

They should also give the parents views equal if not more weight - as school is an artificial setting - you see him 24/7 in a variety of situations.

Would give up on this Paed and ask to see Child Psychologist (CAMHS),

Do not let them get away with the 'bad parent' label - refute that strongly.
