Not sure. DD1 is going to be travelling 10 miles each way per day. I think you need to bear in mind not just journeytime in terms of if you were driving, but journeytime taking into consideration that he might be on a minibus with other children taking a route. So a 20 min car journey could be a 1.25 hour bus journey by the time they do all the pick ups/drop offs.

agree. would you be taking your ds, or using transport.

we are in an extreme position, and I currently take dd1 40 miles to school each day (80 mile round trip)

it takes me an hour each way, and there is no way I'd contemplate her going on transport (personal decision, it would not be right for dd1)

we re, thankfully, moving soon, and we will be about 15 miles away from school then.

my LA seem to think 45 mins is a reasonable time to be travelling to school, from what they've said, but I think they are double accounting, so to speak - they consider a private journey of 45 mins to be fine, in the full knowledge this will be nearer 90 mins if using transport...

The guidelines for transport are an hour and a quarter on the bus, therefore DS leaves at 7.35 and because they get to school early by 8.50 (when school starts at 9) this is deemed to be within the guidelines. I was not happy with this when he started in September age 4.6 but it has been absolutely fine. In fact it is quite nice just doing breakfast and out the door in the morning rather than getting caught up in playing and not wanting to stop!
Due to the reduced traffic the journey time is shorter on the way home, he is home by 4. He is tired and we do not really do any homework but it has worked for us.

ds2 is at local ms primary BUT some of his pre school time was spent at SN School.
Our nearest SN school is an hour away (in traffic) its the same for any local children attending sn school.

30 Miles = an hour each way.

Ty was wondering as one of the options considering for ds is a hr away yes it would be on transport but because of distance and how specialist the school is would not be bus more car .also have dd to get of so could not transport ,ds 1 and Ds2 are old enough sort selves out

less anyone knows of speech school nearer to herts if can't swing the extra funding for speech unit ideally ds needs ft rather than resource base
