Ds is 3.9 and has asd. He does not sleep I finally bit the bullet and got some melatonin, only thing is I can not get him to take it. He was OK for the first week, we gave it to him an yogurt for a few days then he refused, then dh tried cutting a bit out of a banana and putting it in there but now he just refuses any food after tea and we are back to square one.

can you get it in liquid form, I did for dd and it is lots easier.
even with the liquid it is a bit of a struggle, dd knows she needs it(she has insomnia due to another med) but then tries to get out of taking it.
so I tell her something really amazing!! and she looks at me and I am in there with the syringe.
trouble is messing with thier food is a bit of a no no, I could only get it in her(with the tablets) in pot shot(yoghurt)

The doc didn't give me the option of liquid. She said that she could only get it in capsule form which could be opened and put in food. I will ring them on monday and find out.

yes capsules opened in drink#
but do tell the dr you are having trouble(the liquid is called.kidnap!!)

Agree liquids much easier I would definately ask for those. The worry with sneaking it in food is they then refuse the food, which if anything like my DS then further restricts an already limited diet.

if it is the slow release dont think you can get it in liquid form as i tried last year with ds, and got no joy. eventually got ds to swallow tablet he thought a good game as i took my vtamin tablet at the same time so looked like i was playing a game with hi.

It is slow release as ds will 'cat nap' but no proper sleep. The problem with ds is that he is non verbal and very delayed, he is functioning at about 18 month, so getting him to swallow it would be impossible.

Kirkman makes a high quality chewable tablet. Might give it a try.
