Autism support in private schools

We were told the autism outreach teachers wouldn't work with my son's school because he goes to a fee-paying school.

Is this right?

I am a bit confused about it all, he saw the NHS ed psych because it is I guess perceived as a disability rather than a learning issue - there does seem to be some public sector involvement even though we have chosen to educated privately.

Is there any kind of public support available for him, that would help him at his private school?

ds is dyspraxic and we couldn't access any LEA funded services or Ed psych assessments, just nhs OT. Does the school not have a learning support system, even if you have to fund it ?

The LEA usually foot the bill for ASD outreach, so what they have told you may well be right.

However thats not to say that the LEA CANT foot the bill for ASD outreach to go into your ds's school, if you can prove that the school cannot met your childs needs and require this input.

my Ds is in a specialist autistic school BUT we cannot access autism outreach for home help.

My daughter was in a private school and I did the early bird plus with her learning assistant from the school. Then I was able to email any questions I had and they would then get back to me with ideas and suggestions. I can't remember if they came to the school but I am sure they did. The outreach came more through NAS than the LEA through the early bird course. Not sure how old you DS is but I went on the course when my DD was in year 2. Also the same year as she was given a statement and once she had that she did receive much more support from the LEA.
