Why can't we be kept informed about what's going on at DS's nursery!?
Today i decided to hang around the nursery to see how DS was getting on (i do this once in a while).
Anyway after about 45 mins i was about to leave when a lady arrives, sits down and starts watching DS and taking notes.
So i approach DS's teacher about who this was, she informes me it was the area senco doing obs of DS. Apparently she does this once a term then discuss what strategies to employ with DS.
It would have been nice to know! They never seem to discuss anything with me unless i specifically ask!!
Am i expecting too much here ???

Sorry rant over.

No your not expecting too much, dd's nursery always tell me if someone is coming in to see dd at nursery and i speak to the nursery leader most mornings about whats going on with dd and her progress etc.

No, not normal. I always get informed ahead of time if someone is attending, what they are attending for, and given an opportunity to come and get feedback/contribute. Whether it be LH (our area SENCO), Portage, OT, etc.

This is despite the fact that I have to sneak to the back door, rap the window, wait while they work out where DD is with her 1:1, and sneak into the kitchen, because if DD1 sees me she kicks off.

Thanks.
I thought it was slightly out of order that DH and i were not being informed. I suspect this isn't the first time this has happened, i mean if area senco (RB) comes every term and the last time i was informed was last July then...!!!
TBH i'm a bit cheeded off that she didn't even speak to me, today nor last July!
And nothing was said re: the visit when i picked DS up...
Will raise this up next week as we have parents 'evening.

out of order, they should be getting your consent for this lady to observe.

You are right it is very much out of order. The nursery should have discussed any concerns and asked your consent to discuss your child with the early years senco (employed by the lea). The senco should have also asked for your consent and your involvement - you know your child best.

It sounds like your child has an IEP (individual learning plan) plan and strategies for supporting him. You should have been informed and be involved in this process. Contact the senco and ask to meet up and discuss what concerns are present, is there anything you need to do' ie does his hearing need to be checked, does he need referral to speech therapy etc.

SEN toolkit is available free of charge and is very useful if your child has SEN difficulties.

Good luck

sounds out of order, very poor. i chat to the nursery every morning, and they always let me know how's his day been. his IEPs are every 6-8 weeks. at one point we even had a communication book going, noting ds's activities and visa versa. I was surprised however when it slipped that SENCO and inclusion were having a meeting about his transition to school! so not everything, how they can have such meetings without parents amazes me.

I know how it feels. For example, dd2 has recently started twice weekly language support at school with a visiting language specialist - hmm, is that her job title? Haven't a clue. Never met her. Only been told her first name. Not even a letter home. So, when dd2 was off school this week on 1 of the days this person was coming in, well I couldn't save her a wasted journey by letting her know as I have no contact details.
I have honestly lost heart here. I'm really pleased dd2 is getting this support, but as I'm only the mere parent I'm obviously not involved.
Sucks big time
