Appointment problem - what to do?

Grrrrr, I have just realised that, after waiting for over two months for the head of the diagnostic team to go and see DS at school today, DH and I cannot now both attend the follow-up appointment we have scheduled with her for Friday.

She asked that we both attend and DH has taken time off work.

But DS has had real problems staying for lunch these days (won't take a packed lunch as it makes him 'sick' and will only eat school dinners once a week). Our appointment is after 11 and one of us will have to leave to be back at school to pick DS up for 12.

Any ideas/suggestions? School have been no help so I'm not sure they can do anything.

I can't move the appointment earlier or later as she's busy and don't want to cancel.
I always end up doing these things alone

Could you change ds's school dinner day to the day of the appointment?

debs40 · 10/03/2010 13:02

He is so funny about what he eats and there is a set menu. So he will only go in today because it is roast dinner day. He hates the smell of fish so fish and chips on Friday is usually out. I can only think of trying to persuade him but know that it might not work.

No, there good suggestions...keep them coming! Not sure how they'd be fixed for home apptmnt but can ask and will have a think around him coming out of school...school are very precious about attendances so won't like it.

How about a packed lunch and letting him sit somewhere away from the smells etc (and perhaps a bribe of something he very likes, but isnt usually allowed in his lunch box)

Do you think that would be acceptable to school and ds?

Claw3 that is what I'm working towards with school at the moment but to date they have not been prepared to spare the staff to let him sit somewhere else. I might raise it again.

Im grrring now Debs, its a bloody basic human right to be able to eat surely.

Ds has packed lunch and all i can put in it is a mouthful of sandwich (literally a quarter, that is cut in half again) and a 85ml drink. Otherwise he will just refuse to eat or drink anything, he gets so stressed at lunchtime.

All i get is he doesnt look stressed ARGH! when he gets 1:1 to work on being able to express appropriate facial expression.

Ive applied for a statement.

I'd be bringing your DS along with you to the appt that day.

Marne · 10/03/2010 16:53

I would take him to the appt along with his packed lunch.

debs40 · 10/03/2010 17:32

Thanks. I will ring tomorrow and ask if that's ok as an option.

Attila - how's you?
