My dd2 is 2.11,is severely hypermobile & has severe speech delay(only word 'dada'),no dx yet.
She is currently attending the local CDC,1 morning a week, where she gets her therapy altogether,we are happy with the CDC but feel she would benefit from more intensive SALT,at the CDC she gets,at most, about 30 mins which is shared with 4 other children and involves snack time.
Have/are any of you using or have used a private SALT and what are your experiences.Money is tight(isn't it always)but we would be willing to pay,if we thought she would definetly benefit.

Yes I used a private SALT for my DD because we were waiting so long for NHS initial assessment. The private SALT was fantastic but it is very pricey ( circa £80 an hour I think - she came to our house and we live in SW London - I imagine outside London it would be cheaper) - DD loved her and there was a big improvement. DD now has NHS speech therapy every fortnight - it is one to one at a local health centre. The only reason I started privately was I was so worried about her. The private and the NHS SALTs were as good as each other - it was a shame we had to wait so long for the assessment and lessons. Initially my DD was in a group for the NHS lessons but I was not impressed with how much progress was made. After the 'term' had finished there was the option of one to one which we took up. It seems a real lottery depending on where you live re SALT which is so frustrating. Can you push for 1 to 1 sessions on the NHS ?

Will have a chat to CDC about it,she finishes her first term in 3 weeks, then will be re-assessed to see if they will keep her there for another term.
We are in the NW & think the average is about £60 per hour. She could really do with one-to-one & at regular times. Before we started at the CDC she only saw the SALT about once a month for about 20 mins.

My situation was the same situation as cazza40's.

NHS SALT was good when given, but I believed DS2 would benefit from more - and he has (starting school has also helped). She carried out a thorough age-related assessment (ie, where he sat in terms of age appropriate speech) and it was relly useful, as we had no real idea.

It costs around £60 where I live, but I have to take DS2 to her home.
