Learning Disabilities Team coming tomorrow - what should I ask/do?

10 months of being on the waiting list. The chap taking her on came out to see us 10 months ago, and was being trained in the job. DD ended up catapulting herself over his shoulder head-first onto the floor Hopefully he has learned a little since then

This is a first chat without DD1, to see "what's been happening, where things are at, etc.", apparently.

Does anyone know what their remit is, what I should ask, etc? DD has MLD (I learned this week)/GDD, SPD, Epilepsy, Cortical dysplasia. She goes to special school in September.

TIA

Hi Lou,

not sure what to ask, here are some thoughts...

Ask what is their remit? Which kids do tey work with, and what do they do? is it assessment or service provision or both? is he LD nurse or SW? who else is in team?

Ask how they link to other teams and services

ask if there are any initiaves or projects going on, either local or national e.g. aiming high inclusion funding, (if you are in England)

ask how they link to school,

ask for carers assessment, referral to any carers support services, relief to care hours or respite services.

hope that is useful, do let know how it goes

PS, I know it's a pain but having a 'how we got here' sheet is useful so he knows who else involved and also what has already been done or offered.

Good luck
