How much OT and Physio for Dyspraxia?

How much physiotherapy and OT should my ds get if he has dyspraxia? He is 5 yrs and balance/sensory/feeding/planning/spatual/co-ord/dressing really poor. Has physio every three months and OT every term.
I think he needs a lot more as the 'physical' ability gap is huge now.

There is no should it will vary according to how it impacts upon him day to day and what provision is available in your area. When ds was first identified as having similar issues he had ot weekly in termtime (private), then once a term on average for a couple of years, now he is 11 and we can only get it on request and there is up to a 3 month wait for an appointment. Have you been given a home programme of exercises and activities to continue between appointments?

Thanks LIZ ony get hep really off physio for balance/crossing midline/corstability which is set every 3-4 months and is done regulary. This has only been for last 9 months. OT 5 visits in two yrs with no rea input

OT has neglected ds to be honest...I have called for meeting soon. But never had regular input for ds.

He has asd to and the asd symptom are reducing due to 3yrs of intense input but the dyspaxia is now showing its head... just feel lack of OT and Physio input is begining oto show the cracks and want to know what other dc have so I can compare and look at lack of input.

Hi Want2sleep,
Just for comparison, my 3 yo dd has physical diffs, hypermobility, hypertonia and mild muscle fluctuations (brain injury). She is mobile but delayed with physical devpt. We also get physio every 3 months but isn't a huge amount of help really - I think they are keeping an eye on her rather than working with her tbh. We currently have OT every 6 months - helps with similar issues crossing midline, core stability, fine motor skills.

I think with these kinds of issues, the expectation is that we carry out the OT and physio daily and the profs are providing general support and advice. I would like more frequent OT but would also have to fight for it I think.

Do you have a community paed or consultant??

community paed.

Met with OT today (new one) they are going to do loads of programmes for ds (gross motor and fine motor), a wedge board for writing??? so really pleased with this help and sort out games for school blowing football etc... and get him chewies. Still visiting every 3 months but at least lots of new things to start with to try daily.

Do you get physio and OT in SEN statement? Should I ask for physio to be added on to statement?
