I'm out of hospital.

I've been ill for two weeks with a 'chest infection' (according to the GP). Turns out it was pneumonia and I nearly died. I'm finally after a week out of hospital on complete bed rest as I'm too weak to climb the stairs or even walk to the kitchen. I'm coming home to DD who has apparently turned into the demon child while I've been away, and DS2 who stopped eating 3 days ago...in his words " the world is broked and mummys not there to fix it". AARRGGHH!! AND DS1 has been at his dad's for 2 weeks and has probably forgotten what I even look like. Due to the hospital's stuuuuuupid visiting times (3-5pm and 7-8.30pm only), I've only been allowed to see the DC's for 1 hr a day, in the corridor as children under 12yo weren't allowed onto the ward. Apparently it turned to pneumonia because I've had 4 chest infections in 4 months and hadn't stopped to rest...err I have 2 SN DC's, WTF is rest?!. Anyways, I'm back home now, with a bed set up in the front room. And I have the laptop, and no-one else is touching it!! I've really missed MN!!!

Do try to rest! Similar happened to me last year (pneumonia, 2 weeks in hospital and still not enough puff to get upstairs/ walk to the shops) and it has forced a rethink. It is very hard to get well from serious illness with 24 hour care commitments without support.
Can the sn team at CSF help perhaps with sn clubs for dc (or overnight respite) or direct payments or referring to organisations that can help (such as out and about). If you are ill you may be able to get some support in the house from the adult care team? perhaps you or dh could ask for a carers assessment?
Wishing you well!

YY am sleeping downstairs, am worried about tomorrow lunchtime as DP will be at work, and I can't make it to the kitchen yet. Dunno what I'm going to eat. DP looks thoroughly knackered, and he isn't doing half the stuff I would usually do (he's not keping up with DD's schoolwork, she's not able to organise herself, and he has no idea how to do it).

TBH I think if I'm not up and about soon, he will either make himself ill or leave again (has a track history of leaving when it's too much for him to cope). What's CSF? I'm trying to sort out DD's school stuff, but I'm still not really well enough. My O2 SATS on discharge were only 92/93. He can't cope with two DC's, and if I don't have DS1 back on monday then his dad is able to go back to court for full custody instead of shared care. So DS1 is back on Monday come hell or high water, whatever state I'm in.

DS2 is so stressed out that his excema has re-appeared for the first time in 2 years, and DP hadn't even realised he was bleeding behind his legs, so I've had to put dressings on his legs before he went to bed. So much for bed rest. DP hadn't even made DD do her reading that she should have done on Monday night, it took me an hour to get DD to do it as DP was asleep on the chair.

DP did cook me a really nice dinner, but he then fell asleep and left me to it. Where could I go to ask for help that isn't social services, as last time I went to them they told me if I couldn't cope, then I ought to put the dc's in foster care.

I'm now actually NOT on antibiotics for the pneumonia, as I'm severely allergic to all penicillin derived ab's, and I can't take quino? family ab's because they are contraindicated with epilepsy, so there isn't really a suitable AB for me to take for pneumonia, the docs have said I'm just going to have to fight it off myself. Which WILL take longer than a usual recovery from pneumonia apparently.

DP can't cope with working even part time (9.30am-2pm) as well as looking after the dc's, and I can't even get any further than the toilet without coughing my guts up and wheezing, and then falling asleep for an hour. HEEEELLLLLPPP!!

Oh, and to top it off, I was still in hospital last night, which meant i missed DD's (very important) parents evening, so as soon as I'm better, as the communication at the school appears to be crap non-existant, I'm going to have to book 12 separate appointments with all her teachers. And she really needs me to sort the stuff at school out, and it's frustrating me that I haven't been able to. And I've now got the appointment for her TASCC appt. on the 17th March, and if I haven't seen all the teachers by then I'm not going to have all the information I need!

sorry been having rough time typical i am now at other end of the county

Hi again. CSF is childrens schools and families and it seems to be part of SS. I asked for a carers assessment because it was obvious I could not provide the care ds needed (I keeled over several times infront of ds). I was very reluctant to involve SS but they have been helpful - if slow and disorganised. I think they are able to understand serious illhealth as a potential critical situation!!
I think it is awful that patients too ill to walk are discharged from hospital without checking there is support in place. If you do not want to contact SS you could ask the GP or the hospital patient liason person if any support is available. The hospital SW may be the best person as they will have the right knowledge and may work more speadily! It might be possible for SW to organise and pay for tempory afterschool /teatime care for your DC.
Take care. It is so exhausting when lungs are misbehaving!! I would help you if I were fitter!!

wraith · 26/02/2010 17:18

hope your recovery is swift and that nothing untoward has accoured domestically.

CardyMow · 26/02/2010 20:57

apart from the DWP stopping my IS and telling me that not only did they not pay this Monday's payment, but that next Monday's will be late as well, and it's THEIR mess up, they were sending the letters to 10 xxxxx RD, when my address (that I've lived in and had letters from them in for 5 YEARS) is 10 xxxx Drive, xxxx Rd. The DWP's incompetence knows no bounds, and I've had to try to cough and splutter down the phone to them to get anything done about it. Which I didn't manage. As I didn't find out that they hadn't paid me until 4.45pm this afternoon, due to having been in hospital. FFS!!!! I have £80 to see me through to next Friday, which means I'm missing £220 by Monday. Helpful, eh??

Never rains. Poor you. Stupid Fckers at DWP. They are less use than a "mind the drop" warning sign at a lemming convention. Get well soon. x

CardyMow · 26/02/2010 21:12

I just spat water all over my laptop! But, yes, that is an appropriate description of the chimps that are employed by the DWP who are unable to correctly scribe my address on an envelope or to pick up and dial a telephone.
