in a nutshell , ds has verbal /oral dyspraxia , receptive is 2% oral is below 1% as well as lowmuscle tone\hypermoblity and uses a wheelchair ,wears afos and has problems with fine control

He went to Ms reception with full statement with all of teh above plus delayed devlopment which i always susspected not correct ,but after one term was obviouys not working, no adjustments very litle signing etc.Ds changed to unhappy little child that was pooing and wetting self

Went to ican got full assement and they said statement review he does not have devlopmental delay all his diffculties are related to language/understanding and physical issues no behaviour \asd etc

.Called review we then moved after and Lea agreed speech unit yay i thought

But paperwprk went out to speech unit along with ican report and they have come back they feel ds to severe for there remit

All agreed special not suitable esecially local one ,THere now talking about ds back in ms as only option

have meeting on the 8th and not sure where to go next , am looking out of area but the special schools do seem more approiate for dc on the spectrum.any idears i am on the Herts/ESSex border

Look, the fact is that qualifications or no qualifications, everyone is entitled to say it as they see it. Having a child with any condition that alters their childhood and or adult life experiences, opportunities & potential for independence and freedom to choose their aims & goals in life, is tough. Huge amounts of energy and emotion are invested to getting an outcome which in an ideal world we as parents wouldn't have to fight for in the first place. Parents are left questioning whether what they are fighting for is actually the right thing anyway. It fundamentally changes who you are. Often.

Some people respond by going 'turtle', withdrawing and accepting the advice given to them without question. Others get a bit of a 'bear' thing going on. But regardless, we all want what's best for our children.

Duchesse, you could start writing memoirs

Oddjob & Angel, I'm sure the schools are good schools. Any school is both excellent for one set of pupils & quite disastrous for others.

Phoenix, I can't believe that your DS is the only child your LA have had that has typical cognition, signs, but has fine motor issues, and uses a wheelchair. I just can't. There is a school out there with his name on it - it's just going to take some creativity to find it.
