Came across this research paper:

www.speechandlanguage.com/ebp/pdfs/1-1-apr-2006.pdf

It's American, but basically comparing effectiveness of keeping SALT in classroom, or individual therapy.

"SALT insisting that the most appropriate place for SALT for a child with asd is in a 'natural setting', namely the very unnatural mixed SEN class.

I disagree for two reasons:

1)asd children need to learn skills in a low stimulus environment before they are submerged, supported in the social context

2)The group setting is rarely affords training to the parents/caregives for child-specific strategies and targets

3)The group setting is a good additional place to observe and support and generalise, but as the only provision is ineffective.

Please please please can anyone point me to some research to back this up?

Or, - if you have research that contradicts I would be interested too. I'm just trying to get decent provision, not win an argument.

Many tia! "

It got on my nerves that there isn't much out there. Dog, bone
