In brief, DS2 (ASD,dyspraxia) hates having his bed made up in the morning and has stashes of toys in it. Its a mid sleeper that has solid sides all around except here you climb in, so very confined and safe feeling for him. Because it is more hassle than not, I only wash his bedding every two weeks.

So today I go and strip his bed off, and he has masses of dvds (out their boxes) at the bottom of the bed. All of his dvds as well, which I keep in their boxs in the living room, so no idea how they have ended up there at all. He has chewed every single one of them! They can't be played, there are clear teeth marks all over them. And I can't afford to replace them all as most of them are Disney ones. Even his favourite one Wall-e is chewed to pieces. There will be hell on at the weekend when he can't watch his dvds. What the hell am I meant to do?

Looks like this months and next DLA is going to be spent solely on dvds .

Oh no! I 'm sorry and i understand how p* off you must feel. I remember when DS lost his Cars dvd, he drove me bonkers...and i gave in fast and bought another one. But that was one dvd not a whole collection, pricey indeed.
DS doesn't chew his dvds, he constantly gets them out of their boxes and poke his finger in the hole in the middle to spin them. They end up scratched then don't work properly and then he has tantrums and meltdowns over this.
I'll join you i think. Arghhh!!!
Maybe you could try Ebay , they often have second hand ones on there or even new ones a bit cheaper than in shops.

My boy destroys all his favourite DVDs too. Over the years, we have asked for Monsters Inc for Xmas, birthdays etc from all relatives - we must have had (no exaggeration) about 100 copies of it replaced over the years! Any birthdays coming up? Also, just sometimes you can use Fairy Liquid and water, plus kitchen roll or a soft cloth and restore DVDs, but that is for scratches not sure about bites. The other thing I found quite useful is to move to videos - you can get some really cheap ones on Amazon and Ebay, and buy an old video player, as they are harder to destroy (though he does eventually unwind them too). And, last tip, next time you get the DVDs, copy them onto blank DVDs or get a techie friend to do it, so at least you still have the film when he destroys the original. Also, if you have a computer, the Pixar website contains short clips of all the films. I feel your pain!

Have got Treasure Planet, Cinderella 2, Beauty and the Best Enchanted Christmas, Sleeping Beauty and Piglet's Big Movie if they're any good to you. Could post tomorrow or Friday to get to you for the weekend?

5inthebed · 24/02/2010 21:58

Thanks Wedgiesmum, thats really sweet of you. I'm sure he can manage on the ones he has atm (Monsters Inc and Coraline).

Going to look at Ebay tomorrow, hopefully can get some cheap ones, although Disney do seem to sell for the same new as second hand.

Sickof, we have already replaced Monsters inc 5 times, Lilo & Stitch over 10 times and goodness knows about Wall-e. He has never bit them before though, normally does the finger spinning or throwing them like frisbees.

5inthebed - I have dug out 5 copies of the Cars DVD, 2 copies of Ratatouille and 1 2-disc Wall-ee. Basically , every time we get given the Pixar box set for a present, these are the ones my DS doesn't like, so they are pretty much untouched (albeit they've been scattered around the house outside their case, so are a little manky, but still watchable). If you CAT me your address, I can post them to you (though not sure if you said he likes Cars and Ratatouille?)

5inthebed · 25/02/2010 18:34

Sickof, that is really kind of you. Have catted you

Please let me know how much you want for them + P&P

Not sure if this will fool him in the future, but it might be worth trying. Possibly try putting the original DVDs in a zip-up wallet and hide that in a cupboard. Then put blank CDs or DVDs in the original DVD cases. Then he can do what he likes with the blanks.

5inthebed, do I look at my emails for a CAT message? Nothing has come yet? No need to pay, it's fine, I'll just bung a stamp on and send.

5inthebed · 25/02/2010 20:51

Sickof, it should go straight to your email address you have registered MN on.

I'll make a donation to charity then, any preferences?

Honestly 5, they were just lying round the house and would have got no use at all if your DS hadn't come along! From one DVD-mad ASD mum to another!

CardyMow · 25/02/2010 23:44

I thought I was alone in this one!! DS2 is terrible for this, and then cries when he can't watch them. He sleeps with them as wll. Then again, he sleeps with squares of carpet that he licks as well.....

Mouseface · 26/02/2010 14:16

For future ref - Play.com always have a sale on of some sort and you can get DVDs for £2 with free P&P. Is that more expensive than Ebay? Not sure about Disney, they never seem to be on offer!!
