hiya son recently had reynell developmental language assessment and is on the 1st centile age equiv to 2 years 4 months, he will be 4 next month. tried looking on web but cant find answer, does anyone know what the average centile for a child without language problem is and how bad is the 1st centile etc thanks

1st centile means that out of 100 children his age, 99 would have better language in the area being assessed. The bottom of normal range is the 17th centile (so out of 100 children 83 would have a better score).

thanks total chaos, so does the 1st one mean severe delay do you think

I would suspect so, but not 100% sure as when my DS was assessed as being severe they didn't give me any centile score.

i personally think he has autism but then the paed just says traits doesnt hink it it asd, then he thought adhd but now re thoinking that to. ds has severe behaviour probs, he does things like, obsessed with sniffing and touching my hair, rubbing his willy on my hair. playing with his own hair til he pulls it out, he doesnt realise it comes out. he makes friends easily but only if they do what he wants them to do, if they want to do something different that he doesnt want to do then he gets very nasty. being around large numbers of people, mainly adults in shopping centres and expecially buses causes him distress, think all the noise, he often has meltdowns due to this. so many other things but too much to tell.

how do you go about having a sensory profile done. His comphrehension is very behind and has been since age 2 when i thought he had hearing problems. i can only undersand him about 60% of the time and i have to explain things to hm so much to help him understand

and he seems to be in his own little world some times, this is why i asked for hearing test 2 years ago, how it all started, because he would just not hear me, couldnt get a response, but they have done repeated test and his hearing is fine
