Have received a pack from the LEA this morning with the parental advice forms to fill in for both my boys. I just want to know if school get to see what I have written? Won't stop me from being totally honest but just want to know .

After I have completed the forms should I have someone independent (like SNAP) look over it before I send it in?

Thanks - really nervous about the whole thing and school have already said they doubt very much if they will assess! Not a great start.

EVERYONE gets to see it. It will form "Appendix A" of the Final Statement.

Thanks lou at least I know that now. Plently of coffee and chocolate later and will get started.

Hi Starfish

Don't let the fact that school will eventually see it put you off being critical of school if you feel you have to be. The PA should be a very open hoenest account of your xhild's difficulties from your perspective.

I listed all the difficulties my son had experience virtually from birth onwards and all the interventions that had been tried by whoever to assist him. School were hopeless and I was critical of their total lack of support in the PA.

Thanks WestAugust will just be very honest and put everything in the parental application and suppose I had better start instead of just worrying about it. Am having a total lack of confidence in myself at moment but will get DH to help me put it all together. Thank you to everyone who has given me advice on this - really appreciate it x

Yes, be honest and clear. Remember particularly that there will be information you can contribute that nobody else will be able to (about home life, sleeping, eating and other activities outside of school). Don't feel limited by the space given on the forms they send you! In fact I just ignored the forms and typed out my responses (which ended up being MUCH longer than the form).

Everyone who contributes Advice to the statement gets sent a copy, along with all the appendices. It also forms part of your evidence in case you need to appeal. When/if the statement gets sent out to other prospective schools (for transfer in the future or if you want to change schools, the head of those schools get a copy too.
