was reading what you said about your dd and hypermoblity of the jaw affecting dds talking ,ds has similar problems but also has verbal oral dyspraxia these can often run together.Did take till ds was almost 3.6 for dx .

Also took 18 months before he signed back so dont give up

Thank you so much for your reply Phoenix,it warms my heart to think people on here are so thoughtful,as sometimes you feel so very alone
You have cheered me up no end!!
We are currently taking photos of her favourite food things, and offering her a choice,it has taken a while, but seems to be working.
Sometimes I just wish she would nod/shake her head,as I'm sure she understands what I'm asking her.
I'll keep up with the signing!!

sorry for slow eply what we found worked for ds was pick 5 or 6 signs at first that he was intrested in even though was not the most usefull ones.

for him was , train , car, cheese , can not think of others but know they was not usefull words as such as telling me things. but got him started.

Key word talking was about modifying my language , so instead of saying can you go get your shoes and come sit on the stool please,so I can put them on it became

get your shoes . then once he done that would say sit on STool

so one instruction at a time and very simple sounds awfull and abrut but means ds only had to concertrate on few words

oh and a snice as please and thank you are , they are not important words/signs to have

Ds now signs over 1oo signs though are sloppy due to fine control,At 4.7 he is still minmally verbal and has problems with receptive to but the signs given him way of communicating

Thanks again Phoenix, sticking to only a few signs e.g teddy, doll, drink eat, sleep, all gone.We think she uses allgone but does not do the hands together bit, just the flat hands out, except she does them palm up,rather than palm down IYSWIM.She has been doing that sign for a while, but has yet to pick up any more.
We try not to over-complicate instructions & that is a good tip.
Did you/do you use any type of picture cards?
Did your ds nod/shake his head at an early age,as dd2 still does not do that, which is really frustrating
Sorry about all the questions & thanks for the replies!!

Ask away i am still muddling through even now at 4.7

Ds did not do anything for yes ,no including head shakin till he was around 3.6 .He has now learnt say no plus sign but he does not say or sign yes only nods his head.

Did try pecs for ds and he uses pictures when he can not make himself understood but not as in a exchange way he will just point to the picture if offered 2 options .He now tends to pull you towards what he wants ,

Ds is like that with a lot of his signs but was told long as I keot mine correct thats what matters , and there clear enough if you know ds can get the context

He did not point till gone 4
