Moondog Speech Question

SALT has put DS3 at 2 key word level of Derbyshire Rapid Screening Test for comprehension (but with gaps in his understanding) and for expressive. Can you give me an idea of where this puts him developmental age wise. DS is 3.3 (ASD). I know ASD development won't follow typical but just wondered where we were ballpark. She's the one who was pro ABA then got nobbled so she will be very defensive if I ask her anything.

Her recommendation is for work at 3 word level + verbs etc

DS had 2 functional single words when we started ABA 4 months ago, so does this represent reasonable progress? She is not going to tell me if it is in case she is seen to be pro ABA again! But I would like to know for my own curiosity.

If you don't feel comfortable answering thats fine.

Hmm. difficult to say on t'Internet but 2 word level? Maybe at sort of 18 months (but so much depends on the chils, context and so on so DON'T take that as gospel.)

If he had 2 functional single words prior to starting ABA programme then that is good progress! However in this case you are referring to expressive ability and expressive ability with speech (ie he might have been able ot express himself in a more sophisticated fashion with eye pointing, gesture and so on)

To get a true comparison, you would need to know what his recpetive ability (ie understanding) was prioer to starting your programme.

Important ot remember that Derbyshire gives general ballpark guidance-nothing set in stone.
it is pretty old but it is great-the results from either the Rapid Screeing Test or the Detailed Test of Comprehension can be very easily applied to a functional (ie useful) programme of language development.

Does that help?

when DS was 3, he was assessed as 18-24 month level for receptive language, and as between 1 and 2 key words. I think it was the Derbyshire test SALT used.

Total, i know you 've seen my recent threads about what Salt told us.
I'm no expert but for a broad comparison my ds operates at 2-3 key words for comprehension and we have been told he is on the level of a 2 years old approximately. But his understanding is augmented with visual aids.

Can't comment on your other question, as no experience of ABA.
