hey Phoenix. I don't know what to say, this is the stuff that makes me cry my eyes out. Some people are on a day out in the park, and I guess for some of us it's a long haul trip. x

most days it ok but its realising just how much a voice is used for everyday things.

Ds can sign though is sloppy due to controll but unless someone else can he wont be able to communicate realising that this is will be for him more disabling than the wheelchair

ds1 grabs the phone off me all the time now and runs off with it. He listens very carefully and makes occasional 'uh' sounds.

God knows what the callers think.

He has also started dialing to try and get voices I suppose. I am dreading him dialing 999, 'er sorry that was my 10 year old'

I think it about these things a lot phoenix, i often wonder if not having a voice/poor communication is sometimes worse then a physical disability. We use our voices for so many things (to call for help, to let people know how we are feeling, to ask for things). Last week dd2 was very poorly and we had to guess what was wrong with her as she couldn't tell us her throat was soar or her head was hurting, it worries me that something (one day) could be seriously wrong with her but she couldn't tell us .

Dd2 can talk when she wants too but not really enough to let people know how she's feeling and could not talk on the phone in an emergency (although she could possibly dial 999).

I don't think people realize how important communication is until you meet someone who has problems with it. I recently lost my voice for 3 days (with a cold) and found it very hard to get my point across without a voice (i had to order fish and chips by signing, the man in the shop thought i was a right loon).

Riven am thinking more like text phone that deaf people use but not sure if ds will ever a be able spell and have enough control in his fingers,

But thinking like the new ipad where they could preset pharases and dc could lear to click on picture of say police and it dials sends pre recorded message

weather this could be adapted for your Dd to use with eye tracking devices
